Excite Truck was, but I sold it because Excite Bots looks like it will take the crown for OTT trick racing game on the Wii.
Same here. Disappointed that from the trailer it looks to be sticking to only 2-players, but oh well. I would generally rather play Brawl than anything when 3 friends are over anyway.
Mariokart because of the stellar online functionality, awesome new tracks, fun-as-hell tilt control with the wheel and surprising level of depth, oh and improved drift boost mechanic. YES, improved. You still need to know when you have the room to throw a drift in there, and the best players make take a risky line in a drift to get the boost at the end, separating them from the less skilled.
All that said, if Excite Truck had online, that would be my fav racing game. Just love the mechanics of it and the ways to arrive at a win, plus the courses, sense of speed, challenge modes, stat tracking, and custom soundtrack option. Although the custom soundtrack seems to be out for Bots, everything else seems to be ramped up to greater heights/intensity, and there's online. Plus the music sounds a whole lot less generic and more appropriate for Bots, so I don't think I'll mind. So ask me this on the 25th of this month and I should have a new answer.
^ I agree about the balance issue. I almost always use Baby Peach/Cheep Charger, so I have a really hard time against bike users, but I think Mario Kart DS is just the same. If your kart doesn't snake, you automatically lose. Both games are fantastic, though ^^
Excite Truck is ok, but controls could have been more responsive, and overall it just can't compete with the more polished, online enables Mario Kart Wii. I guess it was a great launch title, let's see how Excite Bots improves the formula ^^
I'd love to say Mario Kart but the way I've had 1st place stolen from me time and time again (and not by conventional means), losing 200 points because of some cheating little frakker who learnt it on you-tube, aaaaagh! I fell out of love with an otherwise perfect game
Besides that Excite Truck is probably the best till Bots arrives. An honorable mention must go to Speed Racer, which I was nicely surprised by (once i 'got it').
I am not that much into multiplayer in racing, so here is a pure single player point of view:
Excite Truck - motion controlls work well, "star based" scoring is fun, good graphics, great sense of speed - very nice launch title. Getting Excite Bots aswell.
Ferrari Challenge - the best one if you want some "serious racing". Mediocre Graphics and laggy menu can be forgiven. Motion controlls work. Great collection of authentic Ferrari cars and famous world wide tracks like Monza, Hockenheim or Spa. Much to unlock. Game comes with a powerfull paint-job editor.
Sonic Riders : Zero Gravity - too hard with motion controlls (use D-Pad on Remote instead), offers a little bit too less tracks and options when bought fullprice . Anyway: looks great in motion, creative track design, lots of Sonic characters, intresting racing mashines like Back To The Future Style hover boards, hover inliner and other things. Gravity controlls and three racer classes are intresing. Story mode is... ok with three very impressive FMVs. Wi-Fi leaderboard. Really Enjoyable if you master the controls, slightly underrated by the press and unpatiend gamers.
