Well, V, it is pretty funny that we're all talking like Disney is completely unaware of this serious copyright infringement by some random developer when they actually own that developer. I can't help but 'lol'. And saying "I hope you realise that" is a more polite way of saying "you guys are all wrong so listen to me", and you know, I aim to be polite above all else.
Disney is aware of this and these steampunk mechanised beloved Disney characters will at least be similar to what you see in the game.
Oh and I'm also beginning to think that the artist probably posted the pics one their website when they shouldn't have, considering that they were using copyrighted Disney characters and posting it as their own work without acknowledging the copyright-holder.
we may very well see nothing like these images in the upcoming game (provided it sees a release at all).
Oh we will. These designs are similar to the ones officially shown to Gamasutra a year ago:
Gamasutra wrote:
Gamasutra has seen concept art and information that indicates a title codenamed "Epic Mickey" may be in development at the Austin-based, Disney-owned developer.
Concept art from early versions of the game that we viewed showed mockups of the potential game's environment, including pencil sketches of cities assembled from junk.
Another sketch included a surreal seashore invasion scene, in which machines wearing the faces of the Seven Dwarfs deposit old-fashioned renditions of Disney characters onto the beach with mechanical hands.
Though the kooky environmental concepts, with visible large cogs, gears and even a large fork that serves as a building's awning, are somewhat reminiscent of Disney's Toontown Online MMO, the images -- particularly the cloud-stained seaside painting -- have a distinctly shadowed, steampunk vibe.
...
However, it's unclear whether the style of the concept art or the game's working title will fully carry through to this Junction Point project's conclusion (source)
These latest leaks indicate that the name has stuck and Junction Point has been commissioning artists to go even further with this steampunk robot style since then.
I don't put it past anyone to go a little rogue on a project and take the directed style so far that it goes over the cliff. I'm guessing that's what happened with these images. You will NEVER (yes, I'm saying NEVER) see an apocalyptic image of a crumbling Epcot Center get Disney's approval for public release. Just so we're clear, NEVER. But what we don't know is whether these images were meant as herrings to start the design negotations - something to scale back from and still meet the artists' goals, or if they were just done as a bit of fun and to plump the artists' portfolios.
EDIT: Clickety, I just saw your reply above to Dragon - one word, say it with me now... "NEVER."

Disney licensing Mickey and Goofy for the deranged and depraved? Ridiculous. They have spent literally billions of dollars polishing their image to what it is today. In fact, if this gets a bit more exposure, I wouldn't be surprised if they drop the hammer on the concept art. I don't believe "fair use" would cover mark infringement in pursuit of commercial interest.
Don't forget Kingdom Hearts and the way the various Disney characters were portrayed in that..
I'm disappointed that the only one who ever flirts with me here is Adam.
This is because my low level of english. After read the answers, my resume is like this: "bla... bla... bla... Mickey... bla... bla... bla... copyright... bla... bla... bla... steampunk.... bla... bla... bla... NEVER... bla... bla... bla..."

Wow. Three years is an unprecedented time for an licensed game. Maybe if this sells, we'll see some Disney games on the Virtual Console?
On topic, it's creepy alright. I've never seen something like this, Maybe it's an Kingdom Heart 3, maybe it's going to be rated T for Teens, just to let you know, I've never expected this to happen.

Well, for most of the time its has been in pre-production, but for Disney, this is very important title. It is meant to establish them as a one of the biggest players in the digital entertaiment field, and to make Mickey Mouse relevant for the current generation.
