One or two need to read my title post in balance. Its still one that probably is worth considering, but it didn't live up to the Disney ultra hype. However, that's probably to be expected. I loved the Crash Bandicoot games which may be worse than this game anyway - so eventually I'll probably give this a shot
Looking at Metacritic, they have given less than 4 pages of 90+'s for third parties out of 30 pages of reviews. If you think that's plenty then fine, but I'm still impressed with Epic Mickey.
Non-Nitendo games he said. There's probably more games that aren't made by Nintendo with 90% plus marks than those that are. Besides, there's often little to choose between games that are marked say 85% to 92% in that mag anyway. I was commenting on the review content moreso than the actual mark

Do the maths: more than 10 percent for games marked in top 10 percent bracket. Seems plenty, wouldn't you say?

Wait, what? They haven't even given one page of 90+'s to ANY company. If you want the exact tally it's: Nintendo: 9 (If Flipnote Studios counts) Third Parties: 7 EDIT: Nevermind ignore that.
But I don't get why people are going so crazy over an 85. That usually means it's highly recommended. Now if you're trying to save money and buy VERY few games this year, then this might be off your list, but for people who can afford it (and I suppose people who can't, lol), this should still be highly recommended.
I want it to be good, but Warren Spector's smug grin and talk of nothing but story makes me nervous.
That's my issue as well. Visuals are nice, sound is great, character development and bla bla bla... all fine. But I'm most concerned with gameplay. Good, solid, engaging gameplay. Once someone confirms this, then I'm all on board.
@LEGEND Yeah, I was taking it as non-Nintendo-published games. But Nintendo itself doesn't really make very many games anyway besides the Wii series, Zelda, and Mario platformers. I understand your commenting more on the review content than the score, but to be fair, you responded to my first post talking about 90+'s. Anyway, I guess we were just coming from different perspectives. My apologies.
@Golgo Based on the stats I gave, I suppose, but if I really cared to count out all the third-party game reviews, I think it would be a page or so less than 4.
@SuperMarioFan Agreed. To my mind, 85% = etching into must-have territory. Apparently it doesn't to other people, though.
With all the hype from Warren and his team, the game was unlikely to live up to the hype and expectations but that doesn't mean it won't be a good game.
Hmmm, could be better but the info given says "pretty darn good" to me. Also, IGN, despite the fact that it's still November, just came out with they're best of 2010 nominations. Epic Mickey got nominations (these are for Wii games only... the overall chart isn't out yet) for Best Story, Funniest Game, Coolest Atmosphere, and Best Character (not for Mickey... but for Oswald). However it was not nominatied for things like Most Addictive Game, Most Bang for your Buck, or just Wii game of the year. They're review isn't out yet, though, so I guess we'll see..... http://pc.ign.com/articles/113/1136656p4.html

It seems very nit-picky to me. It got an 8.0, which is a good score, but I'm not really sure why they gave it that. Yes, they liked the story and characters, but they picked on just about everything else. Which is what I thought might happen. I guess time will tell whether the game is getting fair scores or if the reviewers are just being over critical.
i think for such a risky game, scores in the 80s are great. it doesnt matter anyway, i think that the game will sell well. cmon, its Mickey Mouse on the Wii! what (i hate using this term, but sometimes its unavoidable) "casual gamer" wouldnt like that?

I was wondering about their review as well. I saw the 8, but after reading the review, it should have been more of a 6.5 or 7. Plus it's lowest mark was in the category that mattered to me most... gameplay.
I've read the reviews, and here's what it sounds like: Presentation is top notch, Gameplay is decent. It's not bad but it's just decent. This combines for a game that is very good but could've been a whole lot better. It still comes highly recommended and is very fun to play.
Also, there are multiple endings due to the multiple paths you can take, so lasting appeal becomes quite high.

It looks like the game will come down to personal opinion since there have been mixed reviews(Love/Hate). Metroid: Other M tried to do something new as well and the game got a similar reception.
