Just read about a Dragon Quest 25th anniversary collection coming out on the Wii in Japan this September! Has the NES AND SNES versions of Dragon Quest I II and III on it! Got excited briefly until I realized it has about a .1% chance of release outside Japan LOL. Hope Squeenix at least releases some Dragon Quest classics on VC and everybody else doesn't get completely shut out. Anyway, here's the link...
Oops, saw it on the front page now. Somehow missed it yesterday. I'm sorry for the oversight and cluttering the board with old news.
Hope we see something out of Dragon Quest 25th. I get so tired of missing out on so much of what Japan gets. Been an aggravation of mine for DECADES now. I'm surprised that there's been no NES Dragon Warrior on the VC so far. I see no chance of this collection in the US, but surely we'll get some classic Dragon Quest/Warrior on Wii or 3DS VC!
I have fond memories of NES Dragon Warrior and would love the chance to play this SNES version of it. And I never got to play II or III in any form. So, to unexpectedly see this released outside Japan would be a dream (can add it to my mile-long list of stuff I'm waiting for/have waited for from Japan, going back to the 80s).
Have considered getting used game paks at Amazon.com, but even in fair condition they're expensive (and undoubtedly have dying batteries). Now with this news, I'll wait it out and see if we're lucky enough to get some vintage Dragon Quest love here in the rest of the world!
Why isn't there DQ IV in that collection? I guess they don't want to mess with the sales of the DS version? This doesn't have any chance of being released outside of Japan since the SNES remakes never did and translating them would probably be too much work. The very least they could do is release the Dragon Warrior games on Virtual Console, I'd be happy enough with that.
