Topic: Controller Question

OK so I could have fit this topic here, under retro, or wiiware and wasn't sure what I should do so under the main wii board seemed like the best option. I have a wii and I like some wiiware/VC games and some older gamecube games. I have 2 sets of wiimotes with motion+ and nunchucks for each and then i have one gamecube controller. My question is can one play any and all wiiware/VC games with a gamecube controller or could i possibly need a classic controller at some point. Or conversely if I get a 2-player simaltaneous gamecube game, could it be played with a classic controller or would it need a second gc controller.

You can play any VC game with a GCN controller, but some of them are horrible with a GCN controller (Super Mario World)

True statement. SMW is horrible with the GC controller. Holding Y to run and hitting B to jump is just not feasible.

It hasn't been said, but you're more likely to encounter Classic Controller support in WiiWare than GC support. There's also an adapter you can get so you can use the Classic Controller in place of a Gamecube Controller (though this doesn't seem to work with VC games, only Wii and Gamecube disc releases).

this adaptor sounds perfect. basically i have a gamecube controller and would like a second and am also thinking of getting monster hunter tri and was thinking i would just get the one with the classic controller included if it would cover all basis, but i feel like i have missed a lot of treasures on the gamecube so would like to make sure i have something for a second player playing gamecube games as well. have you or do you know anyone that has tried this adaptor? does it work well?

I have two of them (the original Classic Linker doesn't work with the CC Pro, by chance I decided to buy a second one because they were so cheap, so I went with the Plus, which does).

They work just fine, but as stated if it's a Virtual Console game, that supports GC input it won't work; not sure why but the adapter doesn't fool it - since those games work with the CC that's unnecessary anyway. I've used the adapter to use my CC with Metal Slug Anthology (only supports GC or Remote/Nunchuk - neither of which is ideal) and with classic game compilations for the Gamecube like Midway Arcade Classics and Mr. Driller Drill Land on the Japanese Wii.
