Just got this form letter from Nintendo:

We wanted to let you know that we are preparing to begin shipping
the 2009 Elite Status Rewards!

We had thousands of loyal Nintendo fans reach Elite Status last June
and it is going to take us a couple of weeks to ship all the orders.

So, even though your friends or neighbors may receive their Reward
before you do, please be assured that your order is being processed too!

You will receive another email when your reward order ships.

Thank you for your interest and excitement and we hope you enjoy your
Club Nintendo Elite Status Reward.

Of course, I ordered the digital download, so it's rather funny that they're sending out an email to let me know they're about to send me an email!

Anyone know how the digital download is going to work? Is Nintendo going to give us a code to enter or will it automagically appear in our profile? I wonder if it will be possible to sell the code...

I got the email too.

Hehe, that e-mail is pretty funny. I have like 900ish points on Club Nintendo, so I am trying to decide if i want to buy that Zelda poster pack (I like the HIstory of Link poster) or just hold onto my points. I want to make sure I stay about 600 so that come June I can get the special item of 2010. Is it just me, or do we REALLY not have much to choose from...cards, posters, etc...too bad that Game and Watch DS game is sold out.

@Suburban_sensei: that's not how it works... you'll notice that, even though you have 900 Club Nintendo points sitting in your account, you're not at the 600 point Platinum status level automatically, right? your status resets at the end of each CN year, and you have to earn another 300 or 600 points to make Gold or Platinum status by the end of the next CN year in order to win another prize. :3

To add to what dragon said, you don't actually have to have 600 points sitting there unused in your account in order to get elite status. All the coins you earn in 2010 count towards your Elite Status Coins total. Your Family Coin Balance is separate. Coins are never subtracted from your Elite Status Coins total when you spend them.

Now Playing: Bioshock

I've been registering my games for the past week or so and have almost enough to get elite status. Does that mean I am eligible for the Doc Louis download/Mario hat or do I have to wait until the next set of prizes to get something?

You have to wait until July. These prizes are for the last cycle's elite status users. We all picked our prize in July and have been patiently waiting until November when they ship.

why does it take so long for it to ship anyways?

Counting the requests that come in, ordering calenders to be printed, ordering Mario hats to be sewn, and... making those of use who just wanted the download wait to get it at the same time that the other stuff ships out. (And they probably needed time for bug testing anyway.)

At the end of the year, if you haven't attained Gold or Platinum status, do you still lose your points?

@Toon Link: you don't lose the coins that are on your account, but the meter tallying up the coins you've earned in the year will be reset. Here's an example:

In Year 1, you earned a total of 650 coins. Therefore, you earned Platinum status for the year, and received the prize of your choice. Your elite status coin-meter was reset, but those 650 coins are still available on your Club Nintendo account for you to trade in for normal Club prizes for two full Club years after the end of Year 1.

In Year 2, you earned a total of 350 coins. Though you now have a total of 1000 coins on your account to spend on normal Club merchandise, you only earned Gold status for the Club year, because you only had 350 coins on your elite status coin-meter, and thus you were only eligible for the Gold prize. The original 650 coins are only good for one more Club year, while the 350 you earned this Club year are good for two Club years after the end of this year (Year 2).

I just got started in July, I waited till after the cut-off date (In June, I believe) to register, since I seriously didn't really know about the service before. So yeah, i'm at Platinum at the moment.

@suburban_sensei: ah, okay. in that case, as Clickety said, you don't have to worry about keeping a certain amount of coins on your account or not. Any coins earned during the Club year will be kept track of on the Elite status meter for you, which is separate from your normal coin balance -- coins are never subtracted from the Elite status meter until the end-of-Club-year reset. :3
