I was wondering if it is possible for the wii to have an MMO for it, and whether nintendo wifi connection's service could handle it. What do you guys think?

And can you go a little faster?!
yeah, i can't see the Wii being able to handle much more than MHT.

Playing MMOs (true MMOs like WoW, EVE Online, etc.) with anything other than a keyboard and mouse is like trying to play baseball with bananas as bats. The same holds true for RTS games like Starcraft.

Yes, of course it can. The PS2 can and even the DS theoretically can(Bioware said they thought about making a DS MMO).
Of course it wouldn't really be worth it because Console exclusive MMOs do terribly and if you're making it for the PC(which you better be if you're making an MMO) you may as well take advantage of the extra power afforded to you.

Since the first M in MMO stands for "massive" you really can't count MH.
Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Online are MMOs. The term you're looking for (and the TC should have used) is a MMORPG. MMOs have large user bases and smaller party sizes but have the same mindset and goals as the larger MMORPG.

The iPhone has a MMO. The Wii could handle an MMO.
But then Western audiences suck at subscription fees, or buying in-game goods with real money when it comes to console games. So I would guess that the reason there isn't a Wii MMO is because a cost/ benefit analysis doesn't justify one. MMOs are incredibly expensive to build and maintain.

Um, no. MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online. Whether it has the "RPG" at the end or not is irrelevant to the fact that MHT isn't really a MMO.
This is just yet another attempt to create subgenres for subgenres to try and justify a game within a context that it doesn't belong. "MMO" isn't a sub-subgenre, it's a slang abbreviation for MMORPG.

I've always heard it explained like that. shrugs I don't really care, I don't touch the stupid things besides MH.

It's already got one, Hullbreach... http://hullbreachonline.com/ It's not really supported anymore, but it worked. Besides, it showed that Opera ( Wiis' browser ) can do browser based games. Which are prolific on the PC right now.
I don't have a problem with the way games like PSO, MHT, or Guild Wars handles their version of the genre, in fact it's smart. As long as there is a server that allows masses of people to communicate, so they can then join up in their own 'instanced' game world. It works, and you don't need uber specs to run it. I do personally prefer an open world with folks running around in, though. I'm still a recovering EQ addict.
And especially after the fantastic return to form that is Phantasy Star Zero on the DS. An improved console version is all I ask! Still, Sega hinted at big surprises for PSO's anniversary. We'll have to wait and see.
