Topic: Brand new Wii Disc Drive won't read GC disks

So a couple of months ago my Wii's disc drive broke, and I sent it in to get repaired. I got it back around last week, but today I found out that it won't read GC games. Has anyone else had this issue? Did Nintendo remove GC reading functionality from their newer drives? If so, does anyone sell Wii drives that read GC games?

Yeah, the late make Wii and Wii Mini models came without GameCube compatibility....

I'd do what the previous poster suggested and call their customer service. I'd be interested to know the result.
I got so much fun use out of my Gamecube enabled Wii.
Now I own an actual Gamnecube and Wii U

Hmm , well the later Wiis didn't play GC games, but I assumed it was due to a lack of controller/memory cards. If you sent Nintendo a GC playing Wii for repairs, and that's not what they sent you back, then Nintendo failed to actually repair the device you owned. Get on the horn and start complaining.

Nope, in the Wiis that don't have GCN compatibility, the hardware that enabled the compatibility were stripped out. The ports were then removed for obvious reasons.

If you don't have GameCube controller and memory cards on the top of the system, it doesn't play GC games. If you do though, call up customer service and tell them they didn't repair it right.

Well the thing is that I got it repaired at a local store. Hoping that they are as willing to bend as Nintendo would.

You should have sent it in to Nintendo rather then have some local store fix it.

The reason I gave it to a local store is because I tried to open my Wii up, and I accidentally stripped a screw, so they would know. They told me on the phone that if they saw it had been opened up they couldn't fix it.

But the local store is taking a look at it.
