Topic: Black Screen of Death?!

My Wii just got a "black screen." The TV screen went black and the controller disconnected (the Wii itself was still on, I could hear the fan). Does a "black screen" mean my Wii is about to die? Or is it just overheating?

It means you should play your PS3.

I do play my PS3 silly. I just downloaded Mass Effect 2 and Burnout Paradise from PSN, and I'm waiting patiently for them to download.

a black screen could mean anything. if you had just selected a VC/WW game to play and the screen goes black for a strangely long period of time, leave it alone and the game will eventually load (i waited nearly five minutes once, it was weird, but it eventually loaded just fine, lol). if you were in the middle of a game and the screen suddenly went black, it could've just been a weird bug. you could've accidentally hit the power button on your TV remote for all we know, but this 'black screen of death' you speak of is not normally a Wii problem — overheating eventually gives you problems with your display, not blacks everything out. either way, provided your television is turned on, generally a restart will get your Wii running normally after something goes weird.

if you're truly that worried about your Wii, just contact Nintendo and see what they say — i'm sure you have them on speed dial already for your 3DS with as much as you fret over it. good luck!
