And would Nintendo really believe a 2D Mario might increase Wii sales??? Would I be a non-traditional nintendo user and 2D Mario box art and screenshots would be a key reason to stay well away from it. Would I be a nostalgic nintendo user and the effect might be the opposite. Bit if Im a nostalgic nintendo user then more than problably I already had a Wii.

Were stores actually putting Wiis on sale? If I remember correctly, Slapshot, you had said that the PS3s receive an additional price cut or bundle and the Wiis did not. I wouldn't mess with the black friday hullaballoo if I could get the Wii at the same price any other day, so that could be part of the reason. There's always market saturation too, but I'm thinking on black friday, nothing's moving if it's not on extra-special sale, because people figure they can get it any other time and just avoid the mess of black friday.
