For some reason some guy at a store told my mom that Beatles Rock Band doesn't work with the Guitar Hero guitar and drums. Is this true? The reason I want the guitar hero stuff is because I think it's better quality.

You should rent it just to check. Thats what I did. They are different companies so they don't need to guarantee compatibility -- especially if they both want you as an exclusive customer.

Check the Rock Band website. Somewhere on there is a list of what works with what. I'd link you, but I'm on the Wii...

It says on the front of the box that it works with most Guitar Hero controllers and third party music controllers. I can confirm it works with the GH guitar, which i got with GH3: Legends of Rock (I'm playing on a UK/PAL system). I think The Beatles:RB is the best presented ROck Band/GH game (to date) and there is a great (albeit slightly short) selection of classic tracks on the disc.
