Topic: Are you happy with nintendo customer service?

I've always heard great things about nintendo's customer service, so when my wii stopped working correctly I was optimistic that they would be able to fix it for me for free or at least for a reasonable price. At the beginning of the summer my friend was showing me a video of a band on the internet channel and after that the system froze and ever since then whenever i turn it on, I just get a message that says the system files are corrupted and it won't boot up. When I called nintendo they had me boot it up in a safe mode which actually worked but when I tried to reformat the memory it made it even worse when it froze in the middle of doing that and now all of my channels and everything are gone. Now they are charging me 85 dollars to send it in to be fixed. Money is pretty tight for me right now (I'm newly unemployed) and I could really do without spending an extra 85 dollars here, but I really need my Wii to be fixed. This seems expensive to me to fix what is probably a software issue. I didn't mod my system or use it in anyway other than the way its intended to be used. Do you think this is fair?

That is what happens if your Wii's warranty has expired. I had the same thing happen to me. It sucks, but you only have 3 options, pay the 85 bucks to get it fixed, buy a new Wii for $200, or don't get it fixed. I got mine fixed.

@LinktotheFuture: Is your fan working now? Weren't you the person who sent the Wii in for a disc drive problem and it came back with a fan problem? Talk about a bummer. I hope it's working right now.

Put your analyst on danger money, baby.

Yea, I'm definitely sending it in to be fixed b/c life without my wii is rough! I don't mind paying money for a service, but I guess I just thought the 85 dollars they are asking is a bit much. I am pretty certain that nothing really needs replaced on the system so I feel like I'm just paying for the labor, which I'm guessing shouldn't be too intensive.

@wario: do they guarantee their work after you've paid or give you some kind of new warranty for another year or two after they've repaired it for you? that could be worth it if your Wii is giving you problems.

That's a good question. I didn't even think to ask the guy on the phone if this would also come with a new warranty. I would be very happy if it did b/c my wii is one of the original launch systems. So to answer your question, I'm really not sure, but I would really think there would be some kind of guarantee that my Wii would work like it should after paying them to fix it.

After you pay the 85 bucks and get your Wii fixed, you then have a new one year warranty on your Wii.

@Zaphod Beeblebrox I actually got an Save Data Corrupted message when I played Wii Fit Plus, but no problems with any other game. I am supposed receive my Wii in the mail on Friday, so I am eager to find out what they did to fix it. I am hoping I didn't lose my Mario Kart Wii save data, because I unlocked every character and vehicle, and it was really difficult to do so, and I don't want to go through that again.

Yea losing save data can be the worst. Looks like I'm going to have to go back through brawl and unlock all of the levels and characters again
