Topic: Are Sony and Microsoft's Sales Going to Blow Nintendo Away This Xmas?

I get the feeling Nintendo is going to be slaughtered this Xmas by Sony and Microsoft. So badly, that it may push them to finish development of a new console sooner than expected.

The main reason the Wii was such a huge hit was innovation....not powerful hardware. There used to be a choice between "fun and innovative" v.s. "heavy duty hardware and high quality software aimed at hardcore gamers". But now, it seems like Sony and Microsoft have found a way to offer both at the same time. Yeah, they are late to the party, but it does seem like they've taken Nintendo's revolutionary idea and make it better.

I've been a Nintendo guy throughout the console wars, and will remain so. However, it seems like the next year or so is gonna be a complete bloodbath. I must say, that it may be good for Nintendo to get beat up a bit. Maybe they'll start listening to what their long-time fans really want?

There's no doubt that the Wii is going to be losing in monthly system sales more and more frequently, but they should pick up for the holidays.

Nintendo get slaughtered? Highly unlikely. Have lower holiday sales than usual? Possibly.

Let me start by answering this simply: NO

First off, the Wii has a huge lineup of great games like Kirby, DKCR, Epic Mickey, Super Mario All Stars, Sonic Colors, Goldeneye.... just to name a few.

Second, the Wii's sales ALWAYS spike around Christmas. This is exactly what happened last year, everyone thought the Wii would die, and then it crushed the competition during the holidays. It's just how it works. Kinect will be successful, but not enough to knock off the Wii.

Nintendo will no doubt be expecting a soft Christmas this year.

That's tough to say. You mean consoles, right? I think the Wii's been around too long to have another Huge Blowout Xmas, especially now that it has competition. Games will be a different story, of course. If nothing else, Ninty won't be wanting for cash.

Nintendo's gonna get theirs come tax season. i'm not saying they don't care about this holiday, but i do think they're more focused on February/March than they are December at the moment, and first-party staples like KEY, NSMBW, and DKCR will carry them through the next few months.

Wii is going to have less holiday sales since everyone has a wii XBOX and PS3 will have higher sales cuz only n00bs have them

If you ask me, the price of the Kinect and move may ward of parents who don't want to spend a lot of money on a gaming system. They might instead buy a Wii. Also, Kinect and Move don't really have enough family fun games yet, or exercise games like the Wii, so they're missing out on that audience. I think the Wii will be ok. It won't get earth shattering records, but that's mostly because the majority of people who want a Wii already have one.

Wii software lags behind sales-wise doesn't it? I wouldn't count on that to drive holiday sales. If I'm wrong correct me, I'm not sure if that's true or not.

@luke: it probably does, idk. even if they don't sell amazingly and break records and stuff, though, they'll still be enough to get 'em by. their big focus right now is the upcoming 3DS release, not so much holiday 2010.

The answer for this is simple: Who knows? Whatever happens, happens.

Not trying to be rude or anything, but why does it matter? If the Xbox/PS3 out sell Wii this year, its not the end of the world.

It's actually quite good. It's good if Sony and Microsoft make money too.

indeed, and if there's anything Nintendo can learn from Move or Kinect and apply them to the Wii2, so much the better for the rest of us. competition in the marketplace means good things for us as consumers.

Nintendo will sell red wii, red dsi, and there are plenty of Wii games, including goldeneye 007, metroid ther M , kirby's epic yarn, mario collection, donkey kong country returns, sonic colours, disney epic mickey just to name a few.

One of the positive points of capitalism stated right here.

Just how Microsoft and Sony learned from Nintendo.

Consoles: Sure probably.

Software: If that happens I will have lost all hope in humanity. ...Again.
