Topic: Anyone Currently Playing Fire Emblem Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn?

Just curious to know how many here (if any) are playing Fire Emblem on Gamecube or Wii. I'm currently in the middle of Binding Blade and FE7 on GBA as well as Shadow Dragon on DS, and a second playthrough of Awakening on HARD mode, but recently decided to take a break from the handheld releases and fire up Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. And so far, I'm REALLY diggin the games on home console- the bonus experience and allotting it to whom you wish, the fluid animations, starting support relationships on demand... The games are just incredibly complex and well done. I intended to play Path of Radiance first but Radiant Dawn has really sucked me in- might end up sticking with that one for the time being...

Curious to hear any thoughts on these two games- like em? Don't like em? What's your take...

Really like both though prefer Path of Radiance. That game has a fantastic story, the soundtrack is amazing, you get to fully see Ike's development as a character which is a very neat touch if you came across the game due to Ike's involvement in Brawl or Smash 3DS/Wii U. Also you get punished fairly when mistakes are made, something I can't really say about some parts of Radiant Dawn.

Regarding Radiant Dawn, I love that to find out everything about the story and characters you have to complete the game more than once. The "true" ending can only be seen on your second or more playthrough due to some extra options being available that are actually meaningful to the story unlike Awakening's approach of "you can choose this but the same outcome will happen whatever your choice is". My only issue with Radiant Dawn is that the Dawn Brigade is rather underleveled so it makes later chapters of Part 1 and some of later Parts unfairly difficult.

@Grumblevolcano
You and my brother both say the same thing about Path of Radiance being the better game. I really like Radiant Dawn's presentation though. Just really excellent. I actually heard about Radiant Dawn having characters unlocked only by completing certain a number of playthroughs. As if a game like that didn't keep you occupied long enough as is lol...

I'm curious to see exactly how much the characters intertwine between the two games. I really like how Binding Blade and FE7 share many of the same characters and storyline, not to mention identical art styles. And Shadow Dragon and Heroes of Light for that matter. It seems the games are often made in pairs. I'm surprised they're not taking the dual game approach with Awakening's sequel- seemed like ReAwakening was too good a name to pass up

I'm currently playing through Persona games again (3, 4, Q), but am planning on a PoR/RD playthrough after that. Great games, haven't played them through in a few years.

I played Path of Radiance last year and really enjoyed it. I've been meaning to get around to Radiant Dawn for a while now.

Path Of Radiance is my favorite game of all time, so I play it frequently. I like the fact that if you finish the game enough times, you get bonus characters for the Trial Maps.

I absolutely love the Tellius Series! Despite Radiant Dawn being more fleshed out and having the complete ending to the series, I prefer Path of Radiance because in my opinion it had a bit more charm and the levels did not get monotonous or a chore (I don't mean difficult, just a grindfest to complete with low level characters).

That didn't stop Radiant Dawn from being my second most favourite FE game. The game is pretty big and it concludes the story that was started in Path of Radiance. Ike is the only non-royalty main character and his development from a rookie to a mercenary leader shows. PoR has excellent gameplay with the Laguz as new characters (although underused besides the Heron) as well as a decent storyline. I liked the fact that supports take place at the base if the partners are present on the same map, and you don't have to make 'em stick together. Sadly Radiant Dawn had no (unique) support and some of the character endings were unsatisfactory (the end seemed rushed).

Radiant Dawn is really difficult and challenging (it does offer Battle Save at lower difficulties though), probably its hard mode is the second hardest after Awakening's Lunatic. I loved the challenge though, but I still have to beat the game on Hard difficulty. Having an extremely weak party in the first 10 chapters doesn't help either, which gives the game a slow, grueling start. I love how it picks up though and deals with the storyline in divided chapters, each chapter focusing on a different region and characters. The tertiary classes were amazing and loved the skill system which started from PoR (Trueblade FTW). And the graphics and soundtrack were also quite decent. The legendary weapons set finally becomes complete in this game since PoR only had like 3-4.

These games are quite different from the GBA series and I love them for the change. And ALL of the characters from Path of Radiance (sans one i.e. the berserker because there is no berserker class in RD) are playable in Radiant Dawn. Maxed characters from PoD also get a +2 stat boost (in RD) to maxed stats if you transfer your save, if playing on a Wii that is. Many new characters also appear so RD must have the largest roster in my opinion for a FE game. This did lead to some really bad characters as well with quite bad growths.

I hope you enjoy them thoroughly and love 'em cause I know I did

I play through both games a couple times a year. I actually started a playthrough of Path of Radiance a few months ago but I got tired of abusing the bonus experience to max out Sothe's stats (his stats transfer over to Radiant Dawn while everyone else gets an extra 2 points to a stat if you max it out and get to level 20). PoR's story is probably better but I've grown to like the sequel more as I like the story extras you can unlock in the 2nd playthrough by uploading a PoR file with an A-rank bond with Soren and Ike. Anyway, both are great and it bothers me immensely that Intelligent Systems has sold the franchise out to man instead of making games like these two.

Yea I basically played PoR twice in a row because I found out about the Soren/Ike A Bond necessity for quite a lot of backstory reveal in RD. Plus to really exploit that +2 stat bonus - Mia, Ike and Nephenee were absolutely army wreckers on their own in both of my games. And the mages once they reached the end levels.

Sadly these 2 games didn't quite sell enough leading to change in focus of FE (even though PoR was quite accessible).

Path of Radiance is one of, if not my favorite game of all time. It was the game that introduced and hooked me on Fire Emblem. I haven't played it in a few years now, but I've done more play-throughs than I can remember. Everything was great, the characters, the story, the music... Good times.
Radiant Dawn is a mixed bag for me, on one hand I really enjoyed 3/4ths of the game, but part 4 was kind of... Eh. As a game I can't say I disliked it outside of the lack of proper support conversations and how excessively difficult "normal" mode and everything beyond it is. But the story is kind of... poorly executed. That kind of frustrated me, given how much I enjoyed the story of PoR.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a remake of Path of Radiance, with voice acting, improved graphics, and all of that good stuff? Not complaining about the graphics or anything, but improving them can't hurt, right?

I'm currently on Radiant Dawn, and I have to say, I enjoy it alot. Most of part 1 was fairly boring in my eyes, until the very end of that part, then things really picked up. But I still can't believe how bad the voice acting is in PoR and Radiant Dawn. Ugh.

@Soren Personally, I like them as they are. I'd like that they are re-released on the Virtual Console, but the voice acting and graphics are fine, specially since they use the cel-shaded style.
I loved both games, specially Radiant Dawn! However, RD's 1st part on Hard mode is masochistic. The Dawn Brigade is terrible and Micaiah is the definition of a glass cannon. Loved the map, the different mechanics, and the story on both games.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

PoR is one of the better Not-involving-Kaga games in FE. Though, IntySys really sucks at hyping a game up and they screwed up the sequel, RD. It's good, but has quite of argument-ed flaws.

@Luna_110: It'd be nice if it was released on the Virtual Console, that way more people could play and experience it, plus, it would drive down the prices from those Ebay scalpers.

I have to think we'll see them in some form on Wii U. I can't believe they'd release the GBA and DS VC titles and not visit these. Then again we have yet to see Super Mario Galaxy (outside of Japan) or the first two Pikmin games...

I am thinking of selling these games. I own them both in pretty good condition but I just don't have the time to play them. Plus I could use the extra money. But I just don't know if I will ever seen them again, and if I get time later (like maybe in a decade or so) I would love to play them... If only VC was going better.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
