I for one am having a blast reliving my childhood stomping goombas and kicking koopas oldschool style. It's like I'm 10 years old again. I'm having such a fit of nostalgia! 2-D Mario FTW! Oh and the Penguin suit is awesome!

Why do you have to be in your 30's to have nostalgia for classic Mario platforming? I'm only 20, but I grew up playing the series on NES and SNES! And yes, NSMBW is awesome.

I was just wondering how many people who were around back then would still be playing Mario games now. I still remember when Mario 3 was brand new and the Racoon suit was the coolest thing ever. The 3-D games are neat but it's just not the same as good old classic Mario.

I'm in my 30's and not enjoying the new Super Mario Bros. Probably because I don't own it...and probably won't. Also, while those certainly may have been the "good ole days", I don't miss the bloody and sore thumbs.

I'm loving it. SMB was always that game that when I was growing up, we all played and admired when we watched someone get to the level 8 castle.

Yes, this is like living it over again, but this time with my kids. My kids and I played for around 3 hours last night and had a blast just playing the levels over and over again. If we played one level and liked it, we played it again. I can't even count how many times we rode Yoshi in level 1-3.

We're all the way to level 3 and love the penguin suits!

The bubble feature is a real gem for multiplayer.

I'm too young for 2D Mario nostalgia, and I love this game!

You almost have to be in your 30s to have grown up with Mario on the NES. Being 20, you were probable born the same year SMB3 was released in the West, so there's no way you could have grown up with NES Mario. You'd have even been really young when the 16 bit generation ended. You would've only played those games after all the excitement for them had died down and people were looking forward to Super Mario 64. It's not the same kind of experience that way.

Well, I'm 25, so I grew up during the 16 bit generation, but I had a Sega Genesis instead of an SNES (Sonic>Mario). I've never owned a Mario game until Super Mario World on GBA (not counting Super Smash Bros. Melee), but I have downloaded and enjoy the NES Marios on VC. (The classic Sonic games are still better, though.) I'll get NSMBW eventually, but there's some other games further up my list.

Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I am still waiting for the game to hit shelves.
Just 2 more days. Nostalgia is raising up.

I am now 23 years old and received the NES on Christmas, when I was 4 years old. I was so happy when my grandpa came by with a huge present. Still got a pic of him entering the house ^^
It was the NES 4-Player Kit with the 3 game cardrige (SMB, Tetris, World Cup).
Best Christmas ever!!!
I played NES until I was 8 years old, then I got the SNES.
I have more games for my SNES than for my NES, but I still consider myself an 8-Bit gamer, because that was my first system.

@Bulbasaurus Rex: if that's the criteria, i'm 26, and i remember us getting our NES for xmas the year the Action Set came out... best xmas ever, lol, and I also remember when SMB3 came out because my parents not only bought the cartridge and the game guide (w00t, Nintendo Power), they also forbade us kids from playing it until they'd managed to beat it. My mom left the NES on overnight so she wouldn't lose her place in the game; that thing was hot enough to fry an egg on by morning, almost. :3

with that out of the way, yes, I am enjoying NSMBW. the only thing I'm not liking about it are the time limits; i'm taking so long to explore the levels fully and try to find the star coins that i find myself running out of time far too often. D:

Unless you're 20 and had old consoles at that age. I turned 20 yesterday, but consider myself to have grown up with Wizball on the Commodore 64. We didn't have any newer consoles.

Buying NSMBWii on Friday. Looking forward to it. I get a retro buzz from 2D Mario, regardless of my age

i'm only 18, but i grew up playing Super Mario Bros. 1,2,3, the lost levels, and World, thanks to Super Mario All-Stars. sure it wasn't the original, but that was what got me into gaming. i played all of those for years and years and loved the crap outta them, and was amazed by mario 64 when i finally got a N64. Super Mario World was released the year i was born, but i didn't get 64 until i was about 8, so that's about 4 years of playing classic mario, and it really defined my childhood. even after i got 64, though, and was immensely impressed by it, i always loved the SNES marios more. so i'm definitely old enough to have fond nostalgic memories of 2-D platforming, and can't wait to play NSMBWii.

I'm not quite 30, but I certainly qualify. My first entry into gaming was one Christmas morning as a little boy, when I received the NES with the original SMB+Duck Hunt, which were the only games I owned until I eventually got Mario 2; I was also there of course (and highly excited) to receive Mario 3 the Christmas when it was brand new. (I even posted a pic of that first Christmas morning with the newly opened NES, in that user pics thread).

I'm greatly enjoying NSMB Wii. I was a critic of the DS game, as I thought the level design was generally fairly bland and not up to the standards set by the classic games; for the Wii sequel, they've all but eliminated that problem, finally bringing back some truly inventive level design that keeps me entertained throughout.

I would have to say, however, that Mario Galaxy was an even bigger dream-come-true for this old Mario fan, if I had to choose. I consider Galaxy to be the real heir of all the inventiveness and mind-blowing level design that has been a hallmark of the series. NSMB Wii is fantastic, but I'm not sure that I'd rate it quite as high as Galaxy just yet.

I'm 34 -- i still remember getting my NES, the big package with ROB and all (SMB NOT included with that set), in February 1986 -- and am absolutely loving NSMBWii. Almost ridiculously so. Even with all the obvious SNES/SMW influence, it really captures for me the magic of playing the NES Mario games, especially those epic play sessions of SMB3 we used to have trying to find all the secrets and whatnot. Nintendo has done an amazing job with this game. And i've still only barely scratched the surface so far (mid World 3)!

I'm 36 and the game is awesome. It takes me back when the nes first launched with the Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt pack-in game.

@Bulbasaurus Rex: Like Raylax pointed out, it IS possible to grow up playing older systems. That's exactly what happened to me, because my dad didn't want to move into the 3D age and therefore did not buy an N64. I grew up playing NES, SNES, and original Gameboy. Didn't move into the 3D realm until 2002-ish.

That said, I clearly grew up with several Mario games already available, and I honestly don't recall the purchase time of most of our SNES games, let alone NES. It's not the same thing, I suppose. Anyway, Super Mario World was, is, and most likely always will be my favorite 2D Mario platformer. It's the one I have the most actual nostalgia for, I guess, which makes your point for you in a way. I was indeed barely born when SMB3 released, so I knew nothing of the hype at the time. I still consider that game overrated because it's more widely loved than SMW, and it just doesn't seem as good to me.
