Topic: Another step?

Wii owners around the world cheered when the SD Card Menu appeared: they no longer have to do the "channel dance" (as one put it)! However, as you notice, the SD Card channel simply automates the "channel dance" (and is a Homebrew Channel trap to boot).

I wonder... is this SD Card Channel simply another step towards the memory crisis solution instead of being a solution in itself?

Aw... not a Homebrew Channel trap. I'm so disappointed - it's a good job Homebrew sucks almost as bad as 60% of the DLC on Wii, otherwise we'd have a real crisis on our hands.

As for being a problem. I have no problem with the SD card solution - it's there. Accept what you get - you should be grateful Nintendo are even bothering to provide us with any kind of DLC at all considering their pre-Wii/DS attempts at online.

With a good-sized SD card, there is no need for any more of a solution than this. I could see complaining if the load times were long, but they aren't. With 20 SD pages and 12 channels per page, that's 240 games. If you have a large SD card like I do (wasn't very expensive either), you'll run out of channels long before space. Plus, you can still use much of your Wii's memory (best to use small titles like on NES so you can get the most out of their channels). All in all, you could get over 250 games between one SD card and one Wii with very small load times, all for $30-50 dollars. Plus, if you somehow have a wallet that allows you to buy 300+ games, you can always get another SD card -- and I'm sure you can afford it if you splurge on games like that.

It's definitely a solution, not a step toward a solution. The fact that it has to move the game temporarily to the Wii is painless and irrelevant.

By "trap," I mean that moving the Homebrew Channel to the SD Card Menu traps the channel; all you can do is delete it.

Also, no; I was not being unappreciative of the SD Card Channel, but rather curious, since more can be done.

What more needs to be done? Aside from playing straight off the card, which would serve nothing but to eliminate a very short load time and free up a tiny bit of space on the Wii -- space you shouldn't need with a decent SD card -- I don't see what else is necessary unless you are unhappy with the amount of channel slots. But I'm sure that the number of people for whom that is a problem is very small, and if they can afford that many games they can afford another SD card, or maybe already have one -- not that they should have to buy another, but I'm saying it's probably not a deal breaker for them.

Heh, I was thinking of whether more is to (or can) be done.
However, this solution is good enough for me.

o_O! I had read that you could copy it back so long as you'd already installed it properly before. Are you saying yours got trapped?

edit: apparently i read wrong. thanks for the heads up about that, i'll be sure not to copy it over, lol.

It would be nice if game save data could be read from the card as well as some games have quite large save files or put DLC into save data (Space Invaders Get Even), so eventually we'll have another space issue for the people who buy tons of games.

But for older games this isn't really an option without a major update to older IOSes which I don't see happening.
