I honestly think the whole "Achievement" system is flawwed. It makes players completely forget why they got the game in the first place; To enjoy it! Thats one reason I love the Wii. I don't have to worry about doing repetitive pointless act #6 to get a little number next to my name. Its just about the games, and having fun with them. Yes, I have an Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. I used to hunt for achievements, then I realised how pointless it was. Maybe if you got in-game rewards for them, it might be worthwhile. But you dont. Im glad I can just pop in Guitar Hero, or Monster Hunter Tri and not worry that all my friends have the "I Have No Life" Achievement and I dont. Because Nintendo doesnt need the gimmicks to make their games fun. Heck, I still play Gamecube games on my Wii, and I am not upset that I dont have a useless number showing how much of my life I spent doing rediculous tasks (Granted, I probably did them all anyways XD). Does anyone else agree that Wii is better off not having an "achievement" system?

No, you're not. I personally don't mind achievements - they're fun to get as little rewards for doing neat things - but I do find them to be a waste of time. But isn't that what gaming is for? To waste time? To entertain while you're not doing work? Oh well, I have too many games to waste time on achievements anyways.
I don't like the ones you get for playing the game, but getting them for going deeper then just the story into the game I like those.

i don't care whether they have them or not. a positive gaming experience for me does not hinge upon the presence of achievements. :3

I agree. I find them stressing and feel they detract from the game experience. It sort of ruins the mood when you have defeated a challenging foe and a box with the text "Defeated Boss X" appears... Perhaps if they were only displayed after the game or only in a special menu I wouldn't mind them.
i'm not dying for achievements on wii, but i certainly like them. I would greatly appreciate it if they kept track of records and trophies and achievements on my mii, because I think it does give a small feeling of accomplishment even if it is silly. At the very least I want something like wii sports to know how good my mii is at bowling if I bring my mii to someone else's wii. like a real avatar that remembers what you've accomplished and promotes game synergy!

I like achievements, but not the types of "Defeated the first boss". They should be actual challenges, not things you unlock just by playing the basic game normally.
I play World of Warcraft which has achievements and I play 360 games that have achievements also. Me personally they dont bother me one way or another. If I happen to get them cool if not cool too. Some of the easy ones I will do or I do get sometimes while playing the normal game play. However a few of them like Defeat X Boss with only using your pocket knife than I pass unless that normal for the game. I dont replay games just to get the achievements either.
Getting back to the subject at hand it really doesnt matter to me if the Wii has achievements or not.

I'd rather have something more interesting, like concept art, unlockable characters, soundtracks, etc.. Much better than some lame message telling me what I already know who's only purpose is to make my friends jealous of me.
I love achievements, so I would enjoy a similar system for the Wii.. I guess they could always have an option to opt out for those who don't realize you can just ignore them.

Haha, this. And it's quite sad when a concept art gallery - previously seen as the weakest form of unlockable content a game could offer - seems like a good deal in comparison to "You shot 50 people. Were you counting? Did you care? Well we were and we did and now we're telling you about it. Have a complimetary JPG on your profile."
Yes I agree. With my PS3 I thought trophies were interesting and that I should try to get as many as possible, especially platinum trophies. It was fun for a while, but soon it began to feel more like a job and I gave up. I know people who will buy a game like Hannah Montana just because it's easy to platinum. I would rather spend my time playing games, which are fun and interesting on their own. Last week I got 100% completion on Other M, the game was fun in itself, I don't care that it didn't give me any achievements. What's the point in kidding yourself that they actually mean anything? You might as well enjoy the game for what it is.
My problem with achievements is that they bring you out of the game. If I'm playing a moving, story focused game (or even a beautiful and artsy indie game) I don't want little boxes of text popping up every five seconds telling me I unlocked one. But arcade type games? Sure, I'll take some more goals to shoot for.
