Well, you all know that someday, Shigeru Miyamoto will not be there to make more Mario and Zelda games. Who will take over him and what will happen to the franchises?
What do you think?

I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on hari-kiri rock!!! I NEED SCISSORS!!! 61!!!

Did you not know they cloned Miyamoto several times. They got several in cryogenic freeze.

All good things must come to an end eventually. That's like saying that I can't have ice cream for the rest of my life.

This is something I've thought about numerous times within my life.

I personally think that Nintendo has the potential to do great with franchises like Mario and Zelda even without Shiggy, but I don't know if they'll live up to that potential.

It's going to be hard, but I think (=hope) Nintendo have some back-up plans for games & consoles.

If there is a fate worse than death, this is it.

As for the question, I don't believe Nintendo's going anywhere, even when Shiggy's done. I'm not too particularly worried about it at the moment, though when the time comes, I will of course be very sad. Very very sad.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Shiggy's got some good people under him. Nintendo will be all right.

That said, I thought Miyamoto was (a) God? Wouldn't that make him immortal or something?

Uh, Miyamoto hasn't made a Mario or Zelda game in a long time as far as I know, though I haven't looked into his degree of involvement in the NSMB series. That may be an exception. But others have taken over the lead director role in Mario and Zelda at least since N64, and his involvement seems to be less and less as producer as the generations pass by. I think the distinction here is that many think if he touches a game, he made it, when in fact there are many talented minds hiding in his shadow. He has said that he doesn't think he has another IP in him, which is fine by me. It's time for some fresh faces to earn a little spotlight of their own and finally prove that Nintendo is not in fact a one-man band.

I was going to include a picture of him playing his banjo with edited-in cymbals strapped to his knees and harmonica in that goofy shoulder holster thing, but I'm too lazy to bother.

When Shigeru Miyamoto dies, expect a similar reaction to when Walt Disney died.

It'll be a very sad day when he pass away. In fact, if he smokes, I would be surprise if he died when he is around 66.

@RandomWiiPlayer: Of course he won't take over as the producer of the games. He'll turn the company upside down. Just look at Sega. If you think they suck now, imagine how they'll be if he made those games.

Miyamoto for next years Nobel Peace Prize for wanting to bring people together. Via gaming of course.

That was a pretty random dig ssbflan, ha!? 0_o

Nintendo will cope just fine without Shigsy, he's already trained at least 2 dozen monkeys to carry on his fine work. And anyway, he'll be firing ideas at Nintendo, long after he has retired. As for his death (caused by smoking or otherwise), I shall kill myself on that day (assuming smoking hasn't killed me already) in the hope of bumping into him in the queue. Then I'd give him a hug before he gets sent to heaven and i fall to hell (for smoking).

Except that he'd be going to hell for smoking, too, obviously, so you could be hell buddies.

Aha! I had honestly forgotten he was a reformed smoker and gambler. Awesome, though I feel sorry for Shigsy, that really is a hellish sentence, having me following him round asking questions all the time and requesting regular hugs.

Everyone knows that Orlick will be taking over when Miyamoto is gone.
