Much how if you showed a kid and bright and colorful 3D CGI cartoon, he'd think a black and white drawn cartoon would be archaic and poor. Someone who grew up with the older style is used to it and it's easier for them to see past the "flaws" that comes with an older media.

Case in point, I'm not a fan of black and white, but I do prefer traditional animation over CGI animation, and it's not just because I grew up with Disney's masterpieces in the 90s.

Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.

Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

aiming in super metroid is severely restricted, your aiming in prime 3 is not and since both games rely on shooting things as a primary game play function, mp3 is objectivly better to control
your

But those 8 ways to aim are all you need. The more complex something is, the more things go wrong. Super Metroid is simple, yet effective. Metroid Prime 3 was more complex, but it wasn't without its occasional problems.

incorrect - the 8 ways were not all that were needed- they were all that the controller of that time coulod provide - so consequently the game was bult upon those limitations. whereas the 'complex' so called - system in place for mp3 is not doen in by its complexity as it works beautifully. would you fault a state of the art jet engine for being objectively better than an early aircraft engine becuse of its complexity?

no.

and mkwii is objectively better - best graphics, best game engine, best multiplayer, online and off, best set of tracks, best number of players, best carts, best charachters - on and on it goes - it isobjectively better, reveiws that lambasted it were corrupted by nostalgoia and hatred of wii success, the same reason you never here the ps2 lambasted for its casual games and shovelware...

I still find Mario 64 way more fun than Galaxy, not that I dislike Galaxy just found it mildly disappointing better than Sunshine but certainly not the worthy successor to 64 I was expecting.

Come on now, you're not comparing a 2D action-adventure game to a 3D FPS are you? Super Metroid was built so 8 directions is great for exactly what you need to beat the game. I don't really see how it could have benefited from any more, or where the other shots would be aimed in game... Do any 2D games like this really need more than 8 directions for this kinda thing?

Not a huge Metroid fan but would take Super over Prime any day moves at a snails pace and the constant scanning got on my nerves.

what's up with the dramatics, lol... why put up the topic in a public space if you don't want to see people agreeing and disagreeing with your opinion?

the bottom line is that you cannot prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the games you've rattled off are indeed 'better' than their predecessors because 'better' is, for the most part, entirely subjective. fixing totally broken controls would be one thing, but moving from 8 directions to free roaming? people will have to make judgment calls regarding which they prefer is all, as both styles have their pros and cons. there's also much more to both games than directional controls to be considered when deciding for one's self which you feel is a better game than the other. :/

I think he's right. Apart from maybe Animal Crossing. And that's only because you can't unlock NES games on the Wii version.

Oh and Paper Mario is very different on Wii, and not necesarily better.

In my completely objective opinion, the only Wii game that is better than it's previous console counterparts is Donkey Kong Country Returns. No other Wii title has lived up to it's legqacy system counterpart.

excellent example, sir. some of the latter games have been good times IMO (OoT and MM for sure), but TP was just not that great, and nothing beats ALttP to be honest.

another example of how newer releases in a series with updated gameplay aren't always better would be Super Paper Mario. The flip-mode thing was interesting for about five minutes, and then it got old and the rest of the game bored me to absolute tears. It had its good points, but in no way was it a contender for Paper Mario's place in my heart, haha.

What objectively makes Link to the past so great?

The massive and persistent slowdown?

The fact that it borrowed its game engine from Zelda I, unlike Zelda II or Ocarina broke new ground?

I am not sayingi t is a bad game - but objectively the best? No chance. It ranks no higher than Twilight Princess, due to its faults.

Paper Mario for Wii is not objectively better than other Paper Marios. The GC Paper Mario is objectively the best in the series at this date.

And besides all that - Skyward Sword has a date with destiny quite soon.

The Wii has no doubt unobjectively has the MOST content of any Nintendo console, and overall, it is objectively the best.

The best and the most makes WIi objectuively speaking the best game console of all time,.

A Link to the Past is no better than Twilight Princess?

Holy crap I think I just died a little. That's even worse than saying the Wii is the best Nintendo console. I'm going to have to keep myself out of this thread. lol
