Topic: Zelda on Wii U in HD: Why Wind Waker?

while i'm pretty ecstatic about Wind Waker's HD remake, and I'll admit this might be the straw that broke the camels back and make me give in to buying a Wii U, please consider that they stated they decided to do it for three reasons:
1. Get the Wind Waker to a larger install base (gc didn't sell so many consoles...)
2. Satisfy Zelda fans while we wait for this new Zelda
3. While testing out what past engine upgrades could look like to help decide on the art direction of the new Zelda, they tested Wind Waker with an upgrade and liked it. They are using it to "show off what the Wii U can do"

Ok....now while I agree the Wind Waker HD looks a lot more than just a simple resolution upgrade and I'm stoked for it's tweaked gameplay and overhaul and what that might mean...can everyone please look at this picture, it's from the "Zelda HD Experience".

http://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/zelda-wii-u.jpg

Now, it is known that this experience was crafted on the Twilight Princess engine with upgrades thanks to the Wii U, to show off the Wii U's power at that E3.

Ehm.
If they can make Twilight Princess's environments, enemies, and characters look like THAT then WHY would Nintendo choose to do the Wind Waker instead???
Can you imagine if we got Twilight Princess - the entire game - looking like the Zelda HD experience?????? Remember - the demo was NOT pre-rendered! It was real time using the upgraded TP engine!!
Perhaps Nintendo chose to not go the realistic route with the new unknown Zelda game, and therefore didn't want the remake filler title to outshine the new Zelda graphically with a realistic style.
Or perhaps the new Zelda IS going the realistic route so they wanted to give us something completely different in the meantime, as to make our jaws drop when we see the new game.
Just in terms of graphics only and with the goal of showing off what Nintendo themselves can do with the Wii U, I just think a TP remake using the Zelda HD experience's upgraded engine would've been such a smarter move. Granted, I know the graphics weren't the ONLY reason to remake WW, maybe it was a much easier game to remake & get out quicker, or maybe they were really insistent on more people experiencing it, or perhaps it has something to do with in some way not detracting from the shine & lure of the new Zelda game's graphics. Maybe it's because TP was already on two systems. Maybe it's because Nintendo feels WW is a better game... I don't know, but I just thought I'd put this thought out there.
What do you all think?
Nintendo said on the Direct that they were experimenting with past Zelda games and giving them upgrades to help choose an art style for the new Zelda. I imagine they toyed with WW, TP, Skyward Sword, and possibly even older games such as OoT or Majora's Mask (less likely)
What do you all think on Nintendo's choice to remake WW out of all the possible candidates?
In terms of just choosing a game, forgetting what I said earlier about graphics, I'm very happy with their choice to remake Wind Waker btw.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I would've loved to see a Wii U remake of Majora's Mask using the upgraded TP engine from the Zelda HD demo. They share enough stylistic similarities that I believe the engine could've been tweaked to retain the art style of the original MM, and it would've been a much more major upgrade from the original than OoT compared to OoT 3D.

Granted, a project like that would not have been easy or quick by any means, given the age of the game and the prospect of using an entirely different engine than the one it was originally made with, it is to my understanding that they would have to completely remake the game from scratch. OoT 3D didn't completely use a new engine - they worked within the original to upgrade textures/animations/etc to my understanding. And honestly, while OoT 3D does look a lot better than the original, it's still clearly so similar to the original, it really didn't do anything crazy. Child Link and Link from Super Smash Bros Melee look better than the Links from OoT 3D, in my opinion. Again...different engine entirely, and made from scratch.
So anyway, I would've loved to see a Majora's remake - complete remake using the TP upgraded engine. It wouldn't exactly be a quick fix to feed Zelda fans hunger waiting for the new game though, it would be a major project. So one can dream...

You know why I think they chose Wind Waker? It's the only one not playable on the Wii U currently, outside of that Four Swords game and the handheld iterations.

Think about it. You can play the NES, SNES and N64 games through VC and Twilight Princes and Skyward Sword through Wii mode. WW is the only one that can't be played.

I don't know why they chose it, but I'm glad they did.

That and Wind Waker is so much better than Twilight Princess anyway

Wind Waker is pretty neat. I'm just hoping there's more content of some sort. Unless it's reasonably priced, that is.

You can play all the console Zelda games on Wii U, but the portables are still stuck in portable land. They 'bragged' about all Zeldas being able to be played on GCN in the GCN OoT(Masterquest) port disc that came with preordering Wind Waker.
So what moomoo said.

There's talk of the Wii U GamePad acting as the Tingle Tuner for Wind Waker HD in place of the old GBA. So there you go. If that's the case this will show off the Wii U GamePad more than any other old Zelda would have.

I hope not. That would be awful.

Because Majora's Mask will likely be released on the 3DS if it was remade, and even Nintendo knows that Twilight Princess is an abomination that should never be remade. There's also the fact that you can play TP and Skyward Sword on your Wii U, so Nintendo went with the obvious choice.

Because Wind Waker is the Zelda game Nintendo left most unfinished. They cut out whole dungeons, areas, items, etc, there were some gameplay decisions that fairly dodgy and a few other things, so it's possible they think a remake/rerelease could be their chance to make up for some of these mistakes.

That and as said, you can play Twilight Princess on a Wii U, whereas you can't play The Wind Waker on one. By doing this, you can now play any game in the series bar the handheld titles and Four Swords Adventures on one.

And maybe because the new Zelda game might have an art style more like Twilight Princess anyway.

I think they also felt that the WInd Waker, which was quite controversial when it came out, deserved a second chance. Opinions on WW seem to have shifted in recent years and second-hand copies are selling really well.

Twilight princess is one of my favourite zeldas, next to Minish Cap, OoT 3D and ALTTP. I don't think it's bad at all you know, I'd actually like another more realistic zelda title and how could you not like Midna? she's certainly the best companion compared to Fi or Navi.

I agree on the Midna point. You can excuse Fi for not having any personality because she's not technically a living being. Navi however...

Still, I think the reason why Twilight Princess gets so much hate is because it seriously flops during the second arc, and only in the third arc does it get back on its feet.
