Topic: Zelda History Has 3 Time Lines

Posts 1 to 20 of 22

Just been watching the Zelda timeline on youtube to find to see that there are 3 Zelda time lines created off the back off Zelda Ocarina Of Time. The fall of the hero, The young link and the The adult link time lines.

Never saw this happening, just purchased the Zelda book the released to update my knowledge on the situation. Where will they fit in the new Zelda Wii U?

The intro of A Link to the Past mentions that the sages had to fight Ganon by themselves during a war that sounds an awful lot like Ocarina of Time's events. No mentions of Link, so it makes sense to think that Link either failed or decided not to help during that timeline.

Bloop.

i've actually been wondering where A Link Between Worlds was going to fit into the time like. Like is it supposed to come directly after ALtTP or is on on another time line all together like an alternate version of the way things in ALtTP could have played out? idkkk

It's in the same timeline as ALTTP, they've said that it takes place a couple of years after the events of ALTTP - so it's going to be placed somewhere below ALTTP in the timeline.

Oh I see, well that's whats up. I'd really like ninty to release ALtTP on the eshop so I can replay it to get ready for the release. ._.

Yeah, I wish they made ALttP as a "3D Classic" on 3DS. I'd buy that instantly. If not, it should at least be available on the 3DS eShop, since that system is getting the sequel.

I dont know why this idea pops up every now and again. But I always believed there is no time line. The time line is just some thing that fanboys look for and think its there. The Zelda games were never planned as a series like say Lord of the RIngs or The Chronicles of Narnia. So IMO they are just separate stories that happen in the same universe. Kinda like the Final Fantasy games. There are similarities yes but than again they are going to be, but that doesn't mean there is a timeline.

Ahh I get what you're saying. I personally like the idea of it having a timeline. In a weird way it makes it feel like I'm having more of an impact on the world when I'm playing the games. Kinda like I'm making sure that events take place as they are 'supposed to,' but not really like that sounds though because then it would seem like everything is scripted. It's kinda hard to explain lol. But also when ever they kind of harken back to past games I really love. Like in OoT when you first meet Zelda and she says 'I feel like I've met you before' I love that kind of stuff. Of course I guess it could just be because she had that 'dream,' but I don't think that's what it is lol. ;3

Ohh I didn't even think of it being a '3D Classic' but that would be too awesome, I'd by it in a second either way. I don't have a Super Nintendo anymore so I don't really have a way to play it besides maybe an emulator but I'd rather play an official version, so I'd really love to have ALtTP fresh in my mind when I go into ALBW.

I think even though the timeline was an after thought when it comes to the Zelda series, it technically makes sense, because they placed the events in an appropriate order.

Twilight Princess takes place after Link left to Termina, but Hyrule is still there where another Link appears I suppose, so Link probably eventually went back to Hyrule after Majora's Mask and grew up like normal and let the sages execute Ganon, thinking it was ok in both of his experiences. He defeated Ganon in the future, and saw him be executed in the present. Four Sword Adventures could have been triggered by killing Vaati before the time split, and no other form of evil was present in that timeline, where as Ganon and the DS game villians(didn't play) were present, so it makes sense Vaati could have only returned in that timeline, and it mentions Ganon is Vaati in the timeline. Vaati probably took form of Ganondorf in Twilight Princess, and Gandorf took form of Vaati in Four Swords, because any other alter ego of evil was claimed at the time in alternates of reality. Ganondorf in Twilight Princess had no real intent of fighting Hyrule, and was invading the Twilight realm. When the Twilight Realm was invaded, another dimension had basically shown through the evil and directly affected Hyrule, which is most likely where Vaati had resided since his defeat in Minish Cap, AND Four Swords, before the timesplit. History had repeated itself in this timeline, before it had ever taken place.

As for the "Hero is Deafeated", that took place after nothing was done and Ganon did whatever. It doesn't make any sense unless Link from OoT never appeared, or was defeated and Ganon continued his domination of the land, only for Link's decendants to eventually go back and do what their ancestors couldn't. Link and Zelda can still exist although Link lost the battle.

Anything prior to the timeline split is pretty much whatever, and the "Hero of Wind" timeline is acknowledging that Link has defeated Ganon himself, which most likely just trapped him in the sacred realm in a similar fashion as Link himself in the OoT, also that Link defeated Ganon to prevent him from taking over Hyrule, yet it drowned in the sea anyway. In otherwords, Link was spiteful in that timeline, but it didn't matter.
Ganon winning resulted in no flood.

Not sure if this really matters, but I think it makes a pretty good ammount of sense. It's an "either, or, or, either" situation where one thing happens in one place, but there are different outcomes that directly reflect on one another, without directly being related.

I think this next Zelda game will make sense to take place after ANY of the split timelines. The times are split, so it only makes sense to fuse them together.

EDIT: So how can you bring the experiences of 3 different timelines on either side(good and/or evil), without it disrupting what could happen later in said timeline, threatening the past, or coinciding with an alternate reality?

I wouldn't mind another mature Zelda, but i enjoyed in Ocarina when you got to do both. Probably no chance in that ever happening again huh?

Or you just don't pay that much attention or read the manuals that come with the game. When Zelda 2 came out it was a sequel to Legend of Zelda, when Link to the Past came out it was a prequel to both. Then OOT of time after that being another prequel showing the origins of the Triforce and the first time Ganondorf transforms into Ganon. Wind Waker tells what happened after OOT, and Majora's Mask tells what happened after OOT as the child Link. The games always reference a previous game, be it in the intro story, through the text in the game or the manual. We wouldn't think there was a timeline in the first place if the games didn't reference each other. No one ever said anything about Mario because Mario doesn't do this. The linked ending iof the Oracle games has Link leaving on a raft. Link's awakening STARS with Link on a raft.

@Morphtorok As for Link to the Past, later on it says no hero was found worthy to wield the Master Sword. So if Link did die, he would seem as a nobody who died with the rest of the Royal Knights in the Seal War. So they have no reason to even mention him.

He was a kid? From the looks of it, in my opinion he kind of looked like a teen.

It's hard to tell in-game, but the official artwork definitely portrays him as a child.

That's because Link had killed Ganon in OoT. OoT was his destiny to his homeland, and MM was a promise made to the Happy Mask salesman during the search for Navi.
