why can't they just have it in a list, like...
Name Space
Wii Play 2 blocks Wii Sports Resort 12 blocks
The amount of things you have to go through is annoying but I like the little icons for each game.
I wouldn't mind if there was a "home" of sorts like Wuhu Island for example and make it sort of like... dare I say it... club penguin. Where you can go swimming into your jetski and go around the island, jump in your plane and fly around, walk to the tennis court, golf course etc.
I think it would be more involving and fun if they did that. Ofcourse, you'd still have the good ol' Wii U menu and you can join Wuhu Island whenever you felt like it, and to keep out troublesome people you can enable a password or something so only your friends can join.
A Wuhu Island hub would be pretty sweet. Also if they included weather effects too, for example, if its raining in your area, its raining in Wuhu Island, if you have a hurricane... it'll have a hurricane in Wuhu Island too.
I think we'll have something not dissimilar to the Wii Menu, but it will have more features, like how the 3DS Menu is a souped up DSi menu that has buttons to make the menu show more or less apps on the screen at once and had some things on the top bar that could be accessed while playing a game. On the menu, the new controller's screen and the TV screen could show almost the same thing, so that you can navigate the menu with the new controller or a Wiimote.
I'm pretty okay.

I think my idea would also help those small wiiware developers, I got to think virtual advertisement is cheaper and more effective in a virtual city of only game ads.

They might integrate the new controller into the menu. Like, have part of the menu on there. VC on screen, settings on controller, stuff like that. Something that resembles and aquarium would be nice, each fish a different app, and the ability for it to not go on sleep mode. It'd be stylish for your home and functional.
What I'm getting at is something aesthetically pleasing that will draw the eye. As if it were a piece of art, rather than a console that I forgot to turn off.
Sure, a virtual hub would be epic, but that'll obviously never happen, so I'll try to not think about it. I think it's going to be the simple menu we all know and love! ...Meh. Different themes would be great, though! Examples; Simple, Super Mario, DK Jungle, Zelda, Dark, Sky, Nintendo Medley, or even being able to create your own, etcetera.
It's a conspiracy, I tell you. http://backloggery.com/Matillion 3DS FC - 1719 3275 2374
for the simple approach the controller could have a top down map with a tap and go system, equal to the 3ds menu depending on your layout.
to give you more to do, make it feel more like a game world, they could throw in bad Miis, like a king Dedede Mii that steals food, Wario Mii that steals money, bowser jr. can graffiti the town. By catching them and cleaning up their mess you get play coins.

I'm not sure about a virtual world being your main menu. It looks cool at first but after a while it might come across as gimicky and awkward.
They'd probably be best going for something quick, stylish and intuitive.
The best thing they could do is add tons of options to customize your home menu and how it works. That is their aim with the Wii U isn't it? To tailor a gaming experience to you?
