What do you think? Will there be channels again or something new?
I'd like to see it not be a menu but more of town or city, not like PS Home. More like a city version of Wuhu island. Nintendo channel becomes the theater, game store or mall for shop channel, an arcade for virtual arcade games. Maybe personalize your city with play coins or Wii U equivalent. See your friend's Miis walking around when they're online. Instead of trophies or achievements you get a building to represent your games and you unlock floors and rooms, also your friends could see all your games. In the back of my head it seems like more trouble than it would be worth for Nintendo to do and integrate between systems, having your friends be able to jump into your city and all, but it kind of makes the menu system itself a game.

Great ideas! I support the idea of a virtual hub world - with your Miis living in a hotel (Wii Sport Resort style), the disc channel being the Wii U console sitting next to your virtual tv. Turn the tv on for news and weather, pokémon and kirby channel. Get into the arcade and play arcade games, and have your retro consoles sitting there visually in your virtual living room. No channels anymore, but the original boxart for each game and neatly organized by alphabet. If other Miis visit your hub, then they should be allowed to play all retro multiplayer games online with you and other amazing stuff. Like some kind of mobile (like in Pokémon games) your Mii is carrying around (you can switch it on or off manually) and with it turned on other Miis can call you up for online game meetings and videochat.

Wow! Way to look outside of the box! These are great ideas. I personally like how clean the Wii menu looks, but this sounds awesome!

Yeah, it NEEDS to be something different. This sounds promising...

MMO wuhu island. That should help. To reset to system settings, you suicide jump into the volcano.

read my mind about the virtual consoles in your living room. I'm stumped when it comes to Wii U ware, and I hope it's not called that, but any ideas to represent that in a virtual city?

I'd like to see something more robust and traditional - fancy interfaces are great, but only for about 5 minutes or so, then they become annoying. Take a look at PlayStation Home - it originally was intended to substitute the XMB entirely, but because it is so inconvenient the idea never really took off, and that is good news.

To be more specific - it's perfectly feasible to display all the icons on the 'tabpad' and allow for easy operation via touch interface. I'd stick with some form of modified 3DS interface, with more (customizable this time) widgets at the top of the screen. The TV screen would show the animated "thumbnail" of the currently selected aplication, just like on DS, and that's about it. Not creative, I know, but again - for me the most important thing about any menu system is ergonomics. Only when everything is functional, I start noticing the visuals (which are good even on the DS menu if you ask me).

You fly up to a cloud and it shows your games.

The virtual place is good, but I actually agree with this: Simple but efficient.

They should let you make your own Menú :3

I think of a "polished" Wii interface.....And, very important....VERY important....A "Nintendo Land"....a cross between Disney Land and Playstation Home!

A huge, online community, were you can meet your 3DS and Wii U friends, and more importantly...were you can meet new friends!
And a lot of customisation...and for every game a "lounge", were you can chat, etc.....that would be cool!

If they did that, fanboys will cry foul. Though, the only fun thing to do in home is fly a mini helicopter and bowling. Never liked the idea of purchasing virtual items with real money. That's why I think a special bank of achievement points should be in place.

That'd be nice. Especially if they allowed you to post and download themes somewhere. That being said, this is generally done by the homebrew community not really by the console creators.

Personally I'd like a mini platformer like experience for selecting options. Instead of having a menu, have a small overworld that is affected by things you have installed, which could be interacted with, and then used. For example, if you downloaded an adventure game from the online store, you could control your Mii and move towards the program on the map (in a platforming sense). The game could be "booted up" by walking into its overworld marker (for example a cave). Even better would be to allow developers to create their own personal marker for their games/apps and their respective boot up animations. It would probably be more work for devs but it could turn out very interesting (and fun). It could potentially push up online store sales as a marketing gimmick (people might like the idea of seeing their overworld populated). To avoid it getting too convoluted, there could be an Animal Crossing-like system for "putting away" markers for selected games and the ability to rearrange everything. For more traditional users, they could make an option to turn the effects off, with a more traditional menu to select what they want to do.

One more point I'd like to make about this. Nintendo wants to emphasize the socializing aspects of gaming right? Perhaps you can see your friends' Miis wandering around your play world, interacting with stuff. If you own similar software as them, and they are currently playing it, maybe a special animation will appear with the game marker on your map. It certainly would be more interesting than seeing a message saying "so and so has signed in" or "is playing this game".

This, of course, would take a lot of work and judging by the time frame they are aiming for, for their Wii U release, they probably wouldn't have the time to pull it off.

Do they do that with GamerScore on xbox?

I hope that, for one thing, the menu's and the games don't come with warning after warning - health and safety, why not stop gaming, read our 30page smallprint manual including disclaimer, wrist strap ugliness etc.

Just give me the game. I know we're all gonna die. Now let me play.
