The gamepad is a strange beast, it's wonderfully functional and that screen is just gorgeous... But it is a bit bulky and what's with the excessively glossy finish?
We all have our own ways of taking care of our electronics, so what measures do the NintendoLife community take to keep their gamepad in check? Personally I use a matte black decal combined with a silicon cover that came with an accessory pack I bought.
To be honest, my Gamepad just sits under the sofa when I'm not using it. It's just the Gamepad is so bulky that there's nowhere to put it without it looking out of place in my living room. If there was some sort of plain soft case like the ones Nintendo sells for the 2DS, that would be ideal for me to keep it at least protected from dust.

I've never liked screen protectors, so I don't use one.
Mine just sits on a small table that sits directly next my TV stand. Table also supports a Wii remote and nunchuk, Pro controller, and gamecube controller
Sits on charger, sometimes I tote it in a case. I always use screen protectors on touch screens (to do otherwise us foolish from my experience, though Nintendo has some of the best scratch resistance). Never had a problem with them, but I have witnessed the risks of an unprotected screen... I also have grubby kids and child-rearing has greatly increased my efforts towards cleanliness, so I sometimes wipe my controllers down with a wet wipe.
I think silicon cases/gloves are worthwhile to increase grip and prevent minor dings and wear. They are also conducive to cleaning since you can pull it off and dowse them in acid (essentially) if you want it fully clean.
I wouldn't advise someone that the Gamepad requires one, but I think they are worthwhile if you like (or tolerate) the feel. Especially in a party situation where you might be passing the Gamepad around.
I usually leave it on its charging bed, next to the TV.
When I got Game & Wario I put a screen protector. I did scratch my Cosmo Black 3DS after playing Kirby Mass Attack and Rhythm Heaven, so I would not risk to do the same with the Gamepad, as they are not sold in stores. I got a Hori one and you barely notice it.
When I need to wipe it off I use a bit of water and a cloth or a shirt.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
