Topic: Your favourite and least favourite lego games and why?

My favourite Lego game is Lego City Undercover. I love exploring the open world and it is just really fun. My least favourite is Lego Marvel Superheroes Universe in Peril. I really hated the small levels and having to play again and again to get a Good Brick. This was a bad decision for the 3DS game.

So, what's your favourite and least favourite lego game (I don't count Lego Dimensions because of the fact you have to buy extras)

I understand where you're coming from with this point, but almost every LEGO game since LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has had DLC content of some form. LEGO Dimensions may be part of the toys-to-life genre, but the core LEGO gameplay still stands. It's got the puzzles, the action, and the story that everyone has come to expect from LEGO games. Therefore, I feel it should be able to stand proudly among the other incredible LEGO games.

But as for why it is my favourite LEGO game? For a start, I love toys-to-life games. I've played every single Skylanders game, and I collect amiibo to use within multiple titles. I even have some Pokemon Rumble U figures. While many would argue that the whole concept of toys-to-life is scummy and simply physical DLC, I would argue that the toys-to-life genre is giving me a new way use my toys. I'm almost legally an adult, and I still like toys. There is little I can with toys these days though, and kids don't seem to be buying them as much either. By integrating them with games, toys are getting used again. It's great for game developers and toy makers. I can think of so many other toy properties that would thrive through the use of toys to life. For example, Transformers would be a great way to interest back to the property without the fairly terrible movies. LEGO Dimensions is getting me buying toys again and letting me use in a brand new way, and I love that.

I also adore LEGO Dimensions for its sheer number of franchises. By July next year, there will be 30 unique franchises within the game. Initially, I found myself with Batman from the LEGO Batman universe (not to be confused with Batman from the LEGO Movie universe), Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, and Wildstyle from The LEGO Movie. This was a strange and exciting experience. I could take these characters to Gotham City, Isenguard or Cloud Cuckoo Land. Before long, I found myself playing as the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who, riding in the Ecto-1 around Aperture Science, while Scooby Doo, Krusty the Clown and the Wicked Witch of the West followed behind me. The game allowed me to, break the rules, as the slogan would say, and I couldn't help but love that. Unikitty riding on a Dalek? Sure. Peter Venkman in Benny's Spaceship? Go ahead. Very few games let you express this kind of imagination, and it took a LEGO game to do it perfectly. While the majority of the Year 1 characters had previously been seen in LEGO sets before, most of the Year 2 characters are from franchises that would never have been made into LEGO otherwise. Soon enough, I will be able to ET, the Extra Terrestrial, riding inside the Jake Suit, from Adventure Time, in Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog, while being accompanied by the likes of B.A. Barracus, the Powerpuff Girls, Beetlejuice and Gizmo from the Gremlins. If someone had told me 10 years ago that in the future, these scenarios would be possible within a video game, I would have laughed in their faces. LEGO Dimensions breaks the rules with its franchises and that's what makes it great.

Least Favourite: LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean
While movies such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter were movies you could watch and think, 'I wish I could do that', referring to the lightsaber action, whip cracking, and wand waving, respectively, Pirates of the Caribbean was never a movie that I'd watch, wishing that I was a swashbuckling pirate being chased by all sorts of terrible, sometimes undead people. I believe this is what put me off this game the most. While the LEGO formula was as strong as ever throughout the game, I couldn't help but feel it like it was more of a chore. There was rarely any reward for much that I did, and even when there was a reward, it would more often than not be a character who has little to none abilities that are remotely interesting or useful within the game. Therefore, I felt that the game wasn't as strong in comparison to that of LEGO Star Wars II or LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1 - 4.

I haven't played all of the lego games, but I really liked Lego Harry Potter (both games). They're still my favorite, and I'm thinking of picking up the remaster when it comes out.

The only other Lego game I played was Indiana Jones, at a friend's house. But it was kind of boring. We both ended up falling asleep. lol.

I want to play the Clone Wars but that one is really hard to find. (T_T )

I own Lego City Undercover, Complete Saga, and Lord of the Rings, though I haven't played much of any of them so I can't definitively say my favorite. However, I could not get into the Lego Harry Potter games (1-4 was ok but I did not like 5-7), so I'd say that 5-7 is my least favorite. (But I did 100% complete the iOS Lego HP Years 1-4 app a long time ago and that was really fun.)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I used to own the 3DS versions of Lego Batman 2 and Lego Legends Of Chima. Both of them aren't bad but both are unspectacular.

I'll stick to the LEGO games from Star Wars onwards. Undercover is certainly my favourite, they took one of LEGO's basic themes and made an excellent game out of it. Marvel Superheroes, on the other hand, I found rather dull.

@Utena-mobile Both the LEGO Harry Potter games are spell-tacular (I couldn't resist the pun), so great in fact that both Harry and Voldemort are Year 2 characters in LEGO Dimensions, along with the wizarding world to explore. The films just translate incredibly well into the LEGO game formula, and that makes them great.

If you weren't a fan of the Indiana Jones movies, then I don't think you'll find much interest in the LEGO Indiana Jones games. Considering the complexity of the plots within the movies, they're rather difficult to understand within the LEGO games without the voice acting. Perhaps with the release of the 5th film, we'll see all 5 games get voice acting over them.

I highly recommend LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. While I wouldn't consider it to be better than the second game, it certainly does something different and unique that hasn't been done before in LEGO games, and hasn't been done since. The highlight of the game has to be commanding entire units of Clone Troopers into battle, creating a literal Clone War. It's full of the usual LEGO humour we've all come to love, as well as plenty of Star Wars references and jokes.

@LegendOfPokemon Out of the few you mentioned, you should most definitely play through LEGO City: Undercover. It is one of the best LEGO games to date, and takes full advantage of the Wii U Gamepad, something many games failed to do. It has it's own original story, along with an original cast of characters. The story is great, full of the brilliant LEGO humour, as well as an overarching mystery. It also has the largest open world of any LEGO game to date, considering it is a literal city. It's comparable to the size of that in the older GTA games. Not to mention, it's also a Wii U exclusive, so there's a couple of Nintendo Easter Eggs lying about.

@shaneoh The LEGO Star Wars video games are by far some of the best. In the first, they managed to take 3 arguably terrible movies and turn them into a joyful video game experience. The second perfected the LEGO Star Wars experience, and still holds up to this day as possibly the best LEGO game. The third took what the previous two already had, and then added something completely new to it, which worked surprisingly well. However, I won't be the first to admit that LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens shouldn't have happened. While the game is great and a whole lot of fun, and while I'm impressed with what the team at TT Games managed to achieved with just one movie, they should have waited until all three movies had been released (Episode 7, 8 and 9). I understand that from a marketing perspective, it was a good move, considering that The Force Awakens is the highest grossing Star Wars movie of all time. But it did feel off having to play through just one movie, with a few extra levels on the side.

As for LEGO City: Undercover, I have to agree that it is a really great game. I've named the things that I really liked about it in my response to @LegendOfPokemon but a few other things would have to be the vehicle system and how you can call in a car any where, how they pulled off a single character having lots of different abilities through the use of disguises, and Chase himself. I thought he was a great protagonist for the game and thankfully it isn't the last we'll see of him (he's coming to LEGO Dimensions sometime next year).

@Portal_King Don't you mean that Force Awakens is the highest grossing Star Wars movie ever? Titanic and Avatar still made more money than it did.

Oh, and I didn't know that Lego City Undercover was coming to Lego Dimensions; that's really cool! I was planning to buy the game anyway because of Sonic, probably the best Sonic game in the last few years 😛 (I also wonder if Dimensions will come to NX sometime in the future.)

Yeah I enjoyed the Star Wars games, The Complete Saga combines the first two into a handy collection. Haven't played TFA yet, but it doesn't really surprise me that they released a single episode by itself, they released 2/3 of The Hobbit when the last part was around the corner. But I can forgive TT a lot of things, they release their PC LEGO games at AU$50, half the price of most other new titles

A bit of trivia for you guys. The reason the first Lego Star Wars game was a huge seller was because it had the plot of Episode 3 in the game and it was released a few weeks before the movie so everyone who wanted to know or couldn't wait for Episode 3 just bought the game.

@Tasuki really? lol. That's funny. But Lego games always take such huge liberties with their stories and humor. I would hate to spoil a movie as dark and serious as Episode 3 by having my first exposure be a Lego game.

@Portal_King Now I want to play it even more. (-. - )

Tasuki

@Utena-mobile Yeah but minus the humor and the games do a really good job of sumerizing the major plot points of the movies. Lucas and the studio people were appearently so upset at it that is why now the Lego games come out after the movie has been out for awhile.

It's also why Lego Hobbit is unfinished.

Other than the appalling load times I think Undercover is absolutely fantastic and one of the best games on the U. I'm really enjoying Dimensions with my son, definitely looking forward to the Batman Movie expansion.

I only have two Lego games, Pirates of Caribbean and Jurassic World. Both on the 3ds.

They're both ok, nothing too impressive.

Jurassic World has better polished gameplay and graphics. Also I like Jurassic Park more than Pirates of the Caribbean in general.

But it's... Extremely light in content. And there's many odd design choices that make it harder to enjoy.

Pirates of the Caribbean has considerably more content and features. But, being an early 3ds title, it looks rough.

The decrease in cutscene quality when going from the original trilogy to the fourth movie is so big, it's even funny, like it was not meant to be part of the package.

It's hard to decide which one I like better.

Lego City Undercover for me is the best LEGO game, as well as probably being my favourite game of 2014 (along with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and The Wonderful 101), and to top it all off, I'd say it is probably in my top 5 Wii U games of all time. Just so, so much fun, fantastic kids humour, and a plethora of toned down adult humour thrown in that children think they get when they clearly don't lol. Add a huge, beautiful, colourful, open world city to that mix and you've got one hell of a game. I also love the fact that it is not based off an established story/film/character and is its own game in its own right with its own story. As many have said, the closest it is to anything else is GTA for kids.........personally, I'd pick LEGO City Undercover any day of the week though.

@Meowpheel If you're looking for the proper LEGO game experience, I highly suggest you play one on a home console or PC. The games are often longer and have much more content on home consoles than they do on handheld. Also, those sweet, sweet graphics.

@LegendOfPokemon LEGO City: Undercover is coming to Dimensions sometime next year with a fun pack (Chase and a police helicopter). What it also means is that you'll get to play about in the LEGO City Adventure World, and considering sheer size of the LEGO City: Undercover map, I'm curious to see how they'll shrink it down into a much smaller area. There will also be a LEGO City Battle Arena to play Battle Mode in, which also comes with the fun pack. And if you like only a couple of the franchises in LEGO Dimensions, I still recommend getting it. I'd say that we will see Dimensions on the NX, since the second year of Dimensions wouldn't have finished by the time the NX releases (Dimensions is a 3 year plan).

@Tasuki It's crazy to think that LEGO was allowed to do that back then, considering the lock down we have on any kind of movie spoilers and leaks these days. However, these days, LEGO get to create their own LEGO Star Wars stories, as seen in LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens with the extra levels.

@-SD- While I will defend LEGO City: Undercover to the ends of the earth, the load times are just awful. While I understand that with the Wii U hardware and the engine they were using for the game, these kinds of limitations are inevitable. However, I hasn't seen such slow load times since the Gamecube era.

@Portal_King Pretty sure that's one of the reasons they do now. As I said it's probably why Lego Hobbit had to release part 3 I think it was as DLC which never happened. And it's also probably why Lego Marvel was released when it was rather then Lego Avengers which came later.

Lego City Undercover for me as I just stated above, but I'm looking forward to getting "The Chase Begins" from the Selects range at the end of the month for my 2DS to see what that's like. Even if it's half as good as Lego City Undercover then I'll be happy, and for £15.00 brand new it's hardly much to grumble at.

I started playing Lego Jurassic World today on PS4 and I was pleasantly surprised with it. I thought it just covered Jurassic World but it covers the entire Jurassic Park series. Not sure how long each game is but so far I am havin alot of fun with it. Highly recommend this one if you haven't played it yet.

I enjoyed playing the 3ds game while watching the corresponding movies on Netflix.

If I heard correctly, every movie should have around five stages. At least on the console game.

@Meowpheel Yes you are correct each movie has 5 levels. And yeah now I want to watch the movies again but sadly it seems Netflix has removed them from their streaming service. especially since my son has only seen Jurassic World and none of the Park movies. Sadly I don't even have them on DVD or Blu-ray.
