Really?

XBoX (2001), twice the power of Gamecube (later 2001), and still slightly more powerful than the Wii. N64 still avoiding CDs two years after PS1 release. Wii with building cost of 60USD and retail price of 250€ (2009). A 2012 console (which is supposed to live until 2020) must be a monster compared with 360 (2005) or PS3 (2006), not just sligtly more powerfull or roughly equivalent. Quite soon we'll see If Nintendo is putting all the eggs in the controller again while missing everything else.

Aren't uber powerful consoles just leading to biter dev costs meaning the death of industry faster.

I will Definitely be getting one at some point Yes, weather its at Lauch or not will depend on the games available and pricing etc.

I bought the 3ds at launch and kind of feel cheated with such a drastic price drop so soon after. "Yes but I got 20 free games from Nintendo as an Apology" I hear you say. This may be true but if truth be told theres probably only about 3 of them that I would have actually bought from the Virtual Console given the choice. Dont get me wrong I love my 3ds and am happy with it now it has a decent libary of games and the eshop / online functions are all up & running, but the experiance has made me a little wary of making the same mistake again.

As I say one day I will Definitely without a doubt be the proud owner of a Wii U (afterall its the only way I'll get the play the new Mario games) but need more info on Launch games & prices etc befroe I can say when I'll buy one.

Hopefully all my questions will be answred at E3. (well maybe not prices but we should at least know alot more about the console and up-coming games)

And how can this be? You already have companies breaking their heads trying to figure out how to adapt PC games to run on current consoles and losing lots of money in the process, The witcher 2 or Skyrim are two good examples of that.

The Gamecube was the second most powerful in its generation ahead of the Dreamcast and the PS2
The N64 was the most powerful of its beating the Saturn and the Playstation (even with PS' larger games)
The SNES was more powerful than the Mega Drive/Genesis (although it could move sprites faster)
The NES was more powerful than the Master System

There was no "value" point made in the post nor age of launch so that point is a bit strange. What we also seem to be forgetting is that this may well be a longer console lifecycle than usual. It's not unthinkable that in 20 years we might be talking about the Wii/Wii U/PS3/360 and Wii U2/PS4/720 generations rather than the Wii/PS3/360 and Wii U/PS4/720 generations.

and does anybody really want visuals that much beyond what we're getting already? The jump from the Xbox/Wii sort of specs to the specs of 360/Wii U is nice but what's beyond that? I can't say I'm that excited for this "everything else" that the Wii U will be missing by not being 4x more powerful than the HD consoles.

Currently I have $1800 at the ready so as soon as a price is announced a pre-order will be slammed down along with 4 or 5 launch games and hopefully alot of VC downloaded straight away when the console is setup. My body and wallet is ready to rock baby, bring it on

I really want a Wii U, BUT i need to see E3 and hear from Nintendo. I was bummed out with my 3DS when I got it at launch, so I'm not gonna make the same mistake with this system. I also have plans to see my PS3 to get the system, sorry to those who like PS3, but I think the games on it are BORING, but I'm waiting to make a complete decision till after e3

grrrrrrrrrrrrr 1800 dollars ready huh you must be planing more then what im getting for just a 1000 do you intend to buy all the games? i personally decided to wait on some third party games like assassin creed 3 cuz the last one went on sale on boxing day for half off so i figure why not do that this time since they seem to go down in price fast, first party games though are day one, since they dont go down in price that fast lol

and @hydeks as a owner of all systems thus i fail to see what exactly is boring in particular, well if you like games that nintendo makes i doubt youd find anything similiar like it gears toward nintendo fans if i guessed right?

Well, to comment on some of the threads here, console power this past generation didn't really have a huge effect on sales, since the most recent generation had the Wii winning over the other consoles, the first time that Nintendo had won in the "console wars" in all regions since the SNES.

In either case, this next one will be interesting. In Japan there is a huge push towards portable gaming, and it has been happening in the past few years. That is why quite a few major franchises are being moved to the 3DS (Monster Hunter for instance), and even the Wii U has a portable component. This is the first time I personally have had little interest in the new upcoming home console. I am very happy with my 3DS, and I think that it will remain that way for a long time. It is a powerful little thing, and I've grown quite attached to it.

It is pretty much the same for a lot of people here in Japan. All I see are portable gaming consoles on the train, in doctor's offices, bus stops. People carry them with them when they go out. The culture is very much about portables here. So, with that said, I'm really not sure how the Wii U will do here, especially if it has a high price tag.

Silly Tsuchinoko, of course you only see the portable consoles out and about! People don't carry their home consoles on the train.

@BlackFira I have been stashing away 50 bucks a week since last year and just got addicted to saving so I think I have more than enough for what I need at launch + plenty left in what I shall call my 3DS/WiiU cash gaming pool. It depends though what is available so I will probably go a 50/50 and grab 2 1st party and 2 3rd party titles.

Sorry, My English was weird. I mean to say I always see the portables when I go out. Most of the people I know only have portables, not home consoles, and those that do have older consoles like the Gamecube or Playstation 2. The top sellers here are usually the portable games, mostly Nintendo. I think for every five 3DS I see, I see one PSP.

Which basically means you dont miss anything that you can play on PCs but not on current consoles, and perhaps not even on next generation ones. Fine for you, but not everybody else shares that point of view about future gaming. BTW, do you really believe that more power translates only on better graphics?? This might be true only for pretty simplistic and fully scripted games, that is 90% of current games for today's consoles because they are not able to do much more than that.

@BlackFira yeah I know what you mean I'm paying a mortgage on a house and supporting a child but I always seem to find a way to make my gaming a big part of the grand schemola of things
