Topic: Xenoblade Chronicles : best played on 3ds or Wii U as a download

Really want to play this game , but want to know how to best experience it . I have a new 3ds , and that seems like the logical choice , but I am also thinking that playing on the big screen would be great for such an epic game. I downloaded and watched the trailer from the e shop and while it looked great it seemed a bit more "grainy" looking than the trailer on 3ds. Does anyone have experience with gameplay on both versions ?
Thanks in advance !

N3DS if you want to play on the go.

Wii DL if you want a much better version

Thanks . The price difference is definitely in favor of the VC download . I was just on the fence as to whether the look of the 3DS offering and 3D effect would trump the look of the game running on the big screen. Play on the go is not really a big deal for me as I play almost 100 percent of the time at home , so it seems the VC version might be the way to go .

If anyone else has different experience or opinions I would love to hear them .

Thanks again

Yeh, if you pretty much only play at home, take advantage of the gamepad. While I've not gone out looking for it, I've not noticed anyone say the N3DS version has anything better going for it.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

The 3ds version has amiibo support ? What exactly does that represent / add ?

Big screen. Hands down! (with really good speakers because the music is awesome)

Big screen , with a bigger screen in my hands sounds like the winner !

Plus, and this is just my opinion, it looks uglier on the 3DS. I also initially wanted to get it for the New 3DS just because I loved it so much on the wii, but I think playing on a big screen is a necessity for this game.

I need to do back and watch the trailers again . I thought the VC looked grainier maybe just because the image was so much bigger. It makes no sense that it would look better on 3ds with the size of that game getting packed onto that system . I just got the new 3ds Xl Galaxy edition and I need a game to break it in .. I think I am going to go VC for Xenoblade and do a different 3ds game for that.

While cool , I don't know that this would be a selling point for me .. More money spent for little return, even though I bet the amiibo itself is cool

@Bigskyorbust My suggestion would be Hyrule Warriors legends. I got it a week or so ago before my New 3DS xl arrived. It was playable on it, but when I put it in the New 3DS the difference was like night and day

So it runs drastically better on new 3ds? That just might be the ticket ... Is there a demo on the 3ds Eshop? Hopefully so .. I can download that tonight and give it a go . Thanks for the suggestion !

well Xenoblade Chronicles specifically is the kind of game you should experience on a big screen - having said that, it's still beautiful on the New 3DS (XL). if you have an XL and want a portable masterpiece then get it! but if you play your 3DS at home a lot or the portability isn't a big factor then go the big screen.

I happen to have played it in 4 different ways because this is one of my favourite games of all time.

1) New 3DS XL
2) Wii version on big TV
3) Wii U version on gamepad
4) Emulated on PC with high resolution.

The best ways of playing this imo are either 3 or 4. The New 3DS XL screen is too small to really enjoy the massive environments in this game. And it has some inferior textures from time to time. The regular version on a massive TV is far too low-res to look good. You have to sit far away or it looks a bit rough. Gamepad is the perfect size screen for the original game. Or render at higher res on PC and blow up to a bigger screen if possible. Do actually pay for it though, obviously.

@Dezzy

What I was looking for .. Thanks . Going to get it on Wii U and check it out on tv to see how it looks and use game pad if that looks better.

....Emulator? Best way?...Wat? Emulators have got on my nerves all the time, no matter how good the PC is, you're going to run into issues. Yoshi's Island had glitchy and unplayable levels. Kirby 64's hub never worked right, Earthbound froze up randomly when entering a new area...and so on.

Anyways I'd just go with the Wii/U eShop version...though I only played it on the New 3DS (which was ok).

That sounds like just your bad luck or lack of time spent researching the details. Both SNES and N64 emulators can run most games perfectly today. And Dolphin can run Xenoblade pretty much perfectly too. Not to mention there's a high res texture pack for it that someone made (and you can render to higher screen resolutions)

I dunno, I just had issues every time, I stopped using emulators ever since VC showed up. Gonna go with bad luck, because my sucks, a lot. Only game I remember playing that didn't have any issues was Jet Force Gemini.
