Keep it PG-13-ish.
Can somebody give me a brief rundown? How complicated is this game? And how hard is this game?
If you've played the previous game, not that complicated or hard.
If you haven't, quite complicated and quite hard.
Nothing to add. The predecessor was my first entry in the series. (the 3DS version!)
In the beginning I was pretty confused and didn't really know what to think of this combat system.
After all the design of the world really drew me in, as well as the story after some hours of playtime.
Those things really kept me involved and motivated to learn about the gameplay mechanics.
There is a huge variety of mechanics involved here and I must admit, that there were some that I hardly understood till the very end. Others were hidden in the menus and I only discovered them (skills!) when I was halfway through the game.
The later fights in the predecessor were really demanding and sometimes I struggled to believe I was able to beat that boss at all I was confronted with. But I got the hang of it eventually, sometimes by grinding a few levels, sometimes by swapping out team members and learning how to use them.
It all was worth it after all and always seemed fair.
So far I only played this game for like 10 hours (which is little for a title this big; like tutorial little), but I already got the feeling that things aren't THAT different from the predecessor.
Don't hesitate to try this one!
Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.
Does anyone know what Mission 3 is? The affinity quest for Yelv requires that mission, but I don't know what it is. I'm not there yet, but I'd like to know ahead of time so I can get it done early.
That's something I've been unable to figure out about the game, more generally. How do you find WHERE certain sidequests are, if you know their name?

Do you mean the main mission for continuing the story?
It says you should look for them in the southern part of the territory, so if you just go right and down after leaving the city you eventually stumble into the next hints on where to find the lost team.
If you finish this mission you get the ability to mark any mission as your next destination and if you do so there will be arrows on the mini map to guide you there.

@Dezzy: Not sure if this is what you are asking about, but look in the map for the areas (haxagons) with mission icons and tap them (there are icons for normal missions and for affinity missions, as well as tyrant missions and probes). They'll reveal the name of the mission and some basic info like required party members.

Yep, I realised that. But I can't find the one I need!
Another problem I'm having is finding party members I thought I'd already recruited. I assumed moving them out of the active party would leave them available on that list on the right of the screen. They appear to have vanished though.

Have to run and get them each time as far as I know, which is a bit silly yeah. Anyways, once you've said yes to them once, their spot will turn into a yellow shield. Most are found in the admin area, some in the residential area I think.. Or was it commercial..
Chapter 5 "spoliers" - for anyone who has been tasked with exploring part of Oblivia.
I've been venturing into Oblivia. I don't think the localisers did a good job with the Ma-non. Maybe the Japanese voices were high pitched, but the ones we got just sound ridiculous. Surely they could have been a bit creative with their voices in the western localisation. Tatsu doesn't have a computer altered voice (although the nopons in the first game are an example of what I was hoping for), and nor does L. Why do these ones have to speak like the Chipmunks?
I've just finished the 5 chapter, I think, and the purpose of the tower has been revealed. I'm starting to enjoy the story now, even though I'm still doing pitiful damage, although I'm in the process of specialising in being a sniper/support - thus, I need to boost my ranged attack, etc. I'm getting used to all the systems though - Soul voices are vital in keeping alive when in a dangerous battle, and I've learned to hold off on some arts until they are explicitly called. Similarly, targeting appendages and destroying them is also a good tactic.
@Dezzy: Ah, well, yes, sometimes it takes time. But tapping icons is still better than having to wander around. We have to thank that. I guess.
The truth is that this game is amazing but it could improve a lot in some areas, and this is one of them. I also thought the 4 right slots in the party members screen could be used to store additional members. Nope.

Ah ok, I'll try and refind Doug by looking at yellow shields then, thanks. Silly Doug.
@AlternateButtons: Single player JRPG with MMO inspired combat (auto-attack with special skills on a recharge timer). Skills are class based but become available to other classes (via unlocked weapon equips) when a path is fully mastered. Side-Quests can be very MMOish but the story missions generally are fairly straight forward.
If you are not used to systems heavy games, then this might all be a lot to take in and you will probably want to not skip tutorials and explanations. But the game does try to ease you into everything and there are four great survival guides on the main Xenoblade Chronicles X website that gives a good overview of major systems.
Just got the game today, and played it enough for the game pad to run low on batteries. I know it says it supports pro controller, but I have a wired fight pad, the GameCube controller that plugs into the Wiimote. Does that not work, because other games consider it a pro controller, but X turns my Wiimote off no matter what. Any help?
Poyo! <3

@xPH03N1Xx86: that's not a pro controller and I doubt other games treat it like one. Most games that support the pro controller also support the classic controller pro, which is something like you have. But Xenoblade only allows the actual pro controller and the gamepad. And I highly recommend using the latter, you're missing a s***ton of functionalities without it, and you can not use those at all without the touchscreen either. Theere's no menus for stuff like the map/fast travel like in Xenoblade Wii in X.
I prefer playing with the pro controller and the gamepad cradled to my right. That way I get a much more comfortable controller without missing out on the gamepad advantages.
Wow Chapter 10 was amazing. The boss blew anything the original Xenoblade had right out of the water. It was so intense!
I'm really loving this game! It took a while for it to actually start up properly, and it was very tutorial heavy at the start, but once it gives you freedom it really opens up to something amazing. I love the world of Mira! I have to say that the first Xenoblade did a few things better, such as the characters and how the story is handled, but on it's own merits Xenoblade X is absolutely amazing! And it's so huge! About 45 hours in and I'm still trying to learn some of the mechanics.
Great game so far(only at chapter 4). I love how you have free reign and can explore. I love the battle system. I didn't go into this game blind, but I purposely didn't try to spoil myself. I wanted to learn about the mechanics of this game(such as soul voices, QTE, etc.), and I'm glad I did that. I think I understand most of them too.
Edit: I'm an idiot. I just figured out Mission 3 requirement for meeting Yelv is to complete chapter 3.
Edit 2: If anyone is wondering, playing without the data packs installed(like I am), isn't that bad.
attempts tons of times to get across Cauldros just to kill some enemy for a mission...realizes that he can just go around the continent instead...facepalms
...Well that was a waste of time...and Skell insurance. T.T lol
