This isn't a journalistic headline, it's a forum topic that wanted a yes or no from members here. Not sure what you would like to see the topic title changed to or what purpose of your own you had in mind instead for me question?

I was just trying to say the title reads like a headline, and as such, my short answer would be "No, it wouldn't". Nothing more, nothing less.

I could have a long answer, if you would like me to contribute more to this discussion. However, that was all I felt was necessary.

Well I have appreciated all the long and short answers by people. I will say the idea behind the thread has evolved for me since I made my first post. I think Splatoon is a special kind of game for Nintendo and I think that Metroid could potentially be an online hit if the defininition of Metroid can be expanded from the SNES days

I doubt it'll be anything like say, Zelda U, but I can see them making Metroid more open ended and make bigger, more exploration focused areas, more branching paths, and less linearity.

My biggest concern with Nintendo making Metroid larger and more exploration heavy is what may happen to speed running. Getting into that part of the experience has been a thrill, something that has really separated my favorite Metroid games from my least, and I would hate to see that taken away for a larger game. I'll still purchase it, as I've nearly got every Metroid release, but I'll definitely dislike a Metroid game that really bogs down speed running. Every 3D Metroid game besides Hunters has pretty much gone too far or is teetering on the edge.

If people can speed run Skyrim they should have no problem speed running a more open ended Metroid.

I don't think so.
They're completely different and appeal to different audiences.

As a big fan of speed running, it really seems like this is the kind of thing that DRIVES speedruns, rather than killing them.

The UGXloggery ... really needs an update.

I stand corrected. I should've made my post simpler, and should have just said I've got very little interest in speed running a massive, open world game. I'm fine with speeding through what Metroid has stuck with to this point, outside of the Prime Trilogy that's restrictive, and I would prefer they stay that route.
