Topic: With Wi-Fi service dead, Nintendo should remove Wii save data lock

Now with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service being dead and buried and all, I think that Nintendo should provide an update to the Wii mode for Wii U (I doubt that they would offer any further firmware updates for the original Wii) so that previously locked Wii save data can now be backed up to an SD card. The most logical explanation for the locking of save data for certain games in the first place was to (I assume) prevent multiple users from utilising the same friend code data across multiple Wii consoles online (and potentially cause the servers to malfunction). Now that the risk of that occurring is nought, I think Nintendo ought to provide an update that would allow us to back up save data for games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii etc. (so we will no longer have to worry about losing countless hours worth of gameplay).

There may need be some exceptions to this however, as the backing up of save data for say, My Pokémon Ranch, could potentially be exploited, allowing players to clone their Pokémon with ease. Pokémon Battle Revolution save data can also be exploited in this way, allowing players to clone Electivire, Magmortar and Surfing Pikachus (as well as evolution items), but I don't think that is too big a concern (and Surfing Pikachu cannot be transferred to Gen V/VI games anyhow).

Would you like the ability to back up save data for specfic "save locked" games? Are there any other games whose save data you think will (or should) stay locked?

I have one game affected by this: Samurai Warriors 3 and the blanket ban never made sense to me. Yes some games could have save data exploited, but in many games the online function wasn't about scores (like SW3) so why? Since I can't seem to back-up Wii save data alongside Wii U save data I would appreciate a lifting of the lock on Wii save data transferred to Wii U at least. I'm not holding my breath though!

I'd be less hesitant about performing a system transfer between Wii & U if this were to happen. There are other ways to make a copy of the data, however I don't want to do it to my main Wii

I don't think they really have a way to do this. I guess maybe they could put out a channel in the Wii shop that could unlock your saves perhaps. But yeah there are ways around the save data lock if it's important for you to back them up.

The ones on Gamefaq's are they done using a hack to dump them ?

I used some for Warioware DIY / DIY Showcase to stop having to send all the games 2 at a time. (I have all the ones from Warioware DIY in showcase excluding Oberon) and all the ones from Showcase on my cart.
