Am I the only one who thinks the bloom effect is excessive and takes away from the original feel of the game?

NO. I HAVE HALF A MIND TO SUE THEM FOR ALMOST FRYING MY RETINAS.

It's a fez. I wear a fez now. Fezes are cool, just like bowties.

It's a shader effect, a form of HDR. Light is emitted from different spots in order to create a very very bright image.

It's often used games when someone opens a door in a really dark room to make emphasis on the light vs. dark. WWHD is using it as a general theme when the sun is out, which makes it look extremely bright at times. Maybe even too bright.

The sky is more light blue in HD version and blue in gcn version. The light blue is the bloom effect

The blurry glow developers apply onto everything nowadays.

This remake originally had EXCESSIVE amounts of bloom, but that was fixed. I still think it's too much though...

If that's what the bloom effect is then, No...I'm not concerned. This HD remake looks amazing!!! O__________________O

Here, take a look. The original game maxed out to 1080p with some anti-aliasing:

Now here's the remake with all the stupid bloom:

And here's the final version with reduced bloom:

Far better, but still not faithful to the original. It's sad when an emulator looks better than an official remastered edition.

I like the final version with "reduced bloom" the best.

@Norik I personally think the last one looks the best as well!

I guess to each their own. Still gonna buy though.

I never got the hatred for bloom. It's an effect like anything else to be used well or poorly depending on context, and I think a game all about sailing over the ocean in a ridiculously colorful world makes more sense than most. Seems like something that would really add to the atmosphere.

The Wii U version looks better than that emulator pic, IMO. The colors are better. I guess someone could mod the game to do what Nintendo did with this remake, but whatever. That's kind of a touchy subject...

I don't plan on buying this anytime soon, anyway.
It looks like they just touched up the textures and added some real time effects, then updated it to 1080p. The polygons look the same.
This game will be a nice addition for anyone that hasn't played it on GCN.

Draw distance has been upgraded, which I think is great for a game about sailing around the sea...
