I can't guess sales numbers, but I do expect a huge worldwide shift starting in Japan. The U.S. will follow, and I expect Europe, and Australia to really pick up by mid 2014. And now I see why they won't drop the price. The ability of off screen play is huge. And the games they'll be pumping out monthly via retail, eshop and virtual console are already picking up and this time it won't stop. And if and when a dry spell might be coming, out comes the hero of two generations ago...GameCube. Eternal Darkness, Ikaragu, Resident Evil, Timesplitters, Mario Sunshine, etc. I've made my decision. After work today, I'm picking up a Wii U. I see too many benefits and now is the time.

Possibly. It's not guaranteed, but I suspect at least Mario 3D World, Sonic Lost World and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze might cause sales to at least increase by about five million or so units. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros 4 next year will probably cause the bulk of the console's sales though.

As for how it does compared to competition... probably well. After all, Sony and Microsoft's systems are going up against their predecessors with zero backwads compatibility, a more limited line up of games and a fairly high price. The question in my opinion isn't so much 'whether the Wii U takes off' as much as 'does any system take off?'

Your opinion is pretty much identical to mine. Nintendo's got it's usual awesome games lineup, Xbox has Halo alone, and the PS4 has Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV as it's big hits... yeah... I'm thinking the other two will sell well for the first couple of months and then things are going to favor Nintendo after that... and the older PS3 and Xbox 360.

There's no guarantee ANY of the consoles will do spectacular on the market.
The Wii U isn't weak, the GamePad isn't a gimmick, and Nintendo will have games.

Everyone thought PS Vita was going to trump the 3DS, but look what happened. That's not even a low blow, it's the truth. I'm not saying the exact same scenario will happen(although it could), but that's something I can immediately reference that has happened recently that makes tons of naysayers wrong in terms of judging how well a console will do.

I'd say 50% chance it becomes a massive hit because it finally has games like 3DS and 50% chance it does just good enough. Depends on the marketing and whether Mario and Donkey Kong and new Wii casual games are still anywhere near as relevant as they were 5 years ago.

I don't think the Wii U will "take off" but I also think people will be suprised at how poor PS4 and Xbox1 do

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Looks pretty good. It's heartening to see Sonic coming exclusively to Nintendo. I know some Sega fans are crying foul, but really, would you rather it be Microsoft or Sony, two companies that really weren't around for much of Sega's hardware days? Many of our childhoods were Sega vs. Nintendo ... Nintendo "won," you might say, but it's kind of like your NFL team not winning in the playoffs, so the next best thing is to cheer for the team that at least comes from your division. I don't know - my feelings, at least!

Yeah Sonic sells really well on Nintendo. Nintendo fans love their 3D platformers, I'd assume. This continued collaboration with Nintendo is clearly for the best for both companies.

Honestly while Wii U's gonna miss lots of PS4/Xbox One exclusives (...eventually at least), I do think they can be fine with some luck nonetheless. Like, Capcom was happy with MH3 Ultimate, I think Scribblenauts Unlimited did ok, and Rayman Legends will probably do fairly well unless the Rockstar curse kills it. If Watch Dogs and Call of Duty Dogs make a profit on the system, and especially if the kids go nuts for Disney Infinity...or even just 1 or 2 of those games do pretty well for itself, things could be fine pretty easily. This just means that Nintendo should focus on critically acclaimed but not traditional AAA game companies on their side specifically, to try to elevate their games to being more popular than ever so that Nintendo is awesome for 3rd party in the eyes of companies that are more known in gaming because of that(see: Atlus and Platinum). With that in mind, the Dead Island guys not interested in Nintendo might be less irrelevant because the more I think about it...they're starting to become a big deal as a publisher it seems. Same with Bethesda since they started focusing more on publishing games that aren't made by Bethesda.

And worst case scenario, you can do much worse than a Nintendo, indie and Netflix box.

Dunno if they will do so well this holiday. I mean DK country tropical breeze and 3d world are like the 3ds games DKCR and 3d land also windwaker is the same game from the GC so probably no new experience for any of these and that's kinda dull. Now if they made a DK adventure game like DK 64 and a Mario adventure game like galaxy and also a new zelda adventure along with a price cut people would flip out and be very excited to get a Wii u then they would definitely sell like crazy everyone would want a Wii u but alas that's not the case

Absolutely. So many titles coming out, it's crazy. No reason for it not to. This same problem happened to 3DS and now look at it — king of handhelds, still.

Well the 3DS version of DKCR is a port of the Wii version and so it's not just kind of like but exactly like it. It has sold ok on the 3DS or at least enough that some people have forgotten it was a Wii title. It seems. Plus the third best selling game on the 3DS is New SMB 2 which is very much a derivative sort of title. Great but not original.

As for Wind Waker HD well we've got the same again. The 3DS had a remake of Ocarina of Time which was also a remake of a Zelda game and it did very well indeed. Ontop of that one of the other big 3DS titles is Luigi's Mansion 2 which is a sequel to a Gamecube game. So Wind Waker HD is arguably a mix of two things that have worked very well indeed on the 3DS.

The 3DS turned its fortunes around on the back of Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Ocarina of Time 3D and a price drop. So will the Wii U manage to do it with just Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Country Returns:TF, Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros and some other interesting exclusives for good measure? I'd say it's definitely possible.

I swear to Zeus if Nintendo doesn't Market the Hades out of W101 than they deserve to fail. This has the chance to be what Halo, Gears, wii sports, and uncharted were to their various platforms. Get some co-marketing deal going with Nick for Power Rangers.

I completely agree. Just cut the trailer into an ad format, Nintendo. Platinum Games already did the work for you.

Actually I would take that further and say if they don't market W101, DKCTF, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, and yes Zelda and Sonic.. then yes they deserve to fail.. these are going to be their biggest hits.. they need to show them off..
