Topic: Will there be future DLC for Mario Kart 8?

I already have Link, Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach and I pre ordered Isabelle, Dry Bowser, and Villager but I really hope there will be more characters. The last three characters won't be released until May 2015 which is a long time from now but I'm hoping more will be revealed.

These are some characters I think should be in:

Bowser Jr. - I still like the Koopalings over him and I'm so glad and surprised they made the roster but the little brat deserved to be in and the fact that he's not is weird. It's especially surprising because it seems like Nintendo favors him over the Koopalings nowadays.

Diddy Kong - he's a fan favorite and I'm sure a lot of people would have loved him on the roster.

Dixie Kong - Dixie should have been a pallet swap of Diddy Kong in Smash Bros and she's been kind of neglected over the years.

I'm sure there are more but these guys should be in the game, especially over some of the throw away choices like Baby Rosalina, Metal Mario, and Pink Gold Peach. It's kind of annoying how there are 4 versions of Mario in the game… 3 versions of Peach. It's unnecessary.

Who do you want to see in Mario Kart 8 and do you think there will be future DLC after the May release?

I doubt it. Remember when everyone expected DLC because there was just enough room for two more sets of Cup icons in the menu? Well, with the two DLC packs there isn't anymore. So IF we're getting more DLC, it won't be of the same magnitude as what we already have. Maybe more characters and vehicle parts, but no extra courses.
Plus, they need to get to work on the next Mario Kart. The 3DS' true successor NEEDS to have one at launch.

Since there is no more room for icons, Nintendo can't make a new DLC? Are you serious?

Mario Kart 8 is most profitable game for Nintendo on WiiU and therefore the best choice for new DLC. They make the gamers happy, bring money for Nintendo and keep the WiiU as a topic in conversations.

Hey, I didn't think of that, that's what other people thought a while ago.
'hey there's just enough room for four more cups'
'that must mean that we'll get four DLC cups!'
I like the DLC, but Nintendo shouldn't cling to this game for more than a year, really. We'll get the second DLC pack in May, and then it's time to move on to other games, namely Splatoon.

@Jmaster I disagree about a new Mario Kart at launch for 3DS successor, Nintendo needs to go for the unexpected for that launch. I'm sure plenty of people are already thinking that console will start off with games like New Super Mario Bros. 3 and a Twilight Princess remake, not good enough! F-Zero instead of Mario Kart for launch would show to fans that Nintendo isn't just repeating the same franchises but actually thinking about what they put out, same with having Metroid at launch instead of LoZ.

Actually, there could be a second page. One page would have normal courses, and the other page would have DLC courses. So more icons could fit in.
I hope there's more DLC though

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

Nah, if they overdo it with the DLC, future Mario Kart games will have a much harder time convincing the fanbase. The planned amount of DLC increases the content by roughly 50%, anyway, which is quite a lot for a fun-racer.

Not really. It's not like they only released 12 tracks and we have to pay for the rest, plus the new ones are so cheap.

I think if it is profitable, they should definitely look into it. Mk8 isn't going to sell as much as its predecessors, sso they need to maximize its revenue.

I'd pay another $60 for 10 more cups. I miss some tracks from the Wii & N64.

I don't think that's what was meant, moreso about too many track repeats, take for example if SNES or N64 Rainbow Road appears in MK9 then it would've been remade a 5th time which is ridiculous.

There's a rumor that Monster Games is developing Diddy Kong Racing 2 for the Wii U, and that this is the reason why Diddy has been omitted from the Mario Kart roster in both MK7 and MK8. If the rumor is true, that would also affect other lesser known characters in the Nintendo universes.

I think they should release every single retro track. Make MK8 the Mario Kart library. And with every future installment you should be able to unlock all the tracks you want for a small amount of money. They should also make some new features DLC. Like an option to create own cups with your favorite tracks. Never understood why this isn't happening already. I'd love to create cups with the best tracks and not having them limited to four races. They should have an option to play all the cups in a row too. Should be easy to handle and would improve the fun even further.

Also: New characters is always a good thing and it wouldn't be as hard to create some new ones like it would be in Smash. But PLEASE stay away from any future Peach or Mario version. Stuff like Tanooki Mario should be an option if you choose Mario himself like it is with the different colored Yoshis. They could even go nut with costumes like Dr. Mario or Evil Peach or whatever. Basically the whole Smash roster should end up in Mario too.

Unfortunately no Conker and Banjo Unless Nintendo somehow miraculously hijack both characters from Microsoft.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh another Diddy Kong Racing. I probably played that game more than anything else on my 64. Crazy good stuff.

Problem is they are much better than almost all the new tracks.

I certainly hope that we get more Mario Kart DLC after the May pack. It certainly would maximize their profits from the game, keep people busy while they are making other games, and keep the hype up.

Working on the profile pic. Trying to find a good one for me.

Diddy Kong racing was a great game but I don't think they need to make a sequel at this point. Mario Kart is the better franchise and most of the characters from Diddy Kong Racing other than Diddy, Banjo and Conker are totally forgettable and most fans don't have a connection to them.

So you play MK8 for the memorable characters, rather than for the fun gameplay and good online?
