Remember back when the original skylanders came out and for at least 4 or 5 months you could never find any of the single packs because of scalpers? Well do you think the same thing will happen with Amiibo? Its basically skylanders for a more mature audience so this worries me that it will be a target by the scalpers.
With Skylanders it was more due to it being bigger than they thought it would be, the new Skylanders and Disney Infinty since then have not had the same problem (at least not to the same degree).
If the figures had a meaningful use, scalpers might ruin them for other people but restricting availability. But they don't. You can play all games so far entirely without the figures, so the value in scalping is very limited.
I don't see this being a huge problem. If it is, Nintendo will probably be more at fault for limited distribution (the best way to beat scalpers is to make more product available).

This, Skylander/infinity are phyiscal dlc, if you dont own the figure you can not access whole sections of the game. This makes it easier to scalp as people feel like they are missing out not having these figures.
Amiibo's functionality is in support of the main games not required for it. Its consumer friendly but not great business wise as Skylanders/infinity has already shown the market is prepared to be taken for a ride figure wise. Props to Nintendo for their approach though, i hate the dlc locked behind figure approach.
I doubt they will ruin it because unlike Skylanders, its not needed to unlock and play anything in-game and I doubt one character would be rarer than the next or release "special" figures with alt. looks and/ or stats at select locations (I hope not). Plus since a variety of stores is having them, it wouldn't end up like Pokemon Rumble U figures. Although some characters will be more popular than other based on looks and playing style so they would target ones like Link and Fox.
In any case, stores are still taking pre-orders so it looks like it's safe for the people that show interest in it.

If there are rare ones that are in demand then it'll happen. But so far it looks like all of them are about as desirable as the next and they should be pretty easy to get I would assume. Maybe once they get to the 3rd or 4th set and we're getting Ganondorf and ROB. If they don't do as big a run because they weren't as big a hit? Then maybe they more obscure ones will be hard to find. If you want them all and aren't quick enough then you'll get hit by the scalpers at that point.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

i personaly feel like the third party amiibos will suffer from this
They will ruin it if they become valuable and limited in supply. The chances are Nintendo will want every penny they can get his year to retain profitability so they'll have plenty of Amiibo to sell.
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.
If Nintendo can meet demand, more figures will show up before anyone has the chance to sell them at a markup, and I don't think amiibo has that high of a demand, TBH.

I think that some of the rarer, and less seen Nintendo characters are going to get scalped ALOT. Example: Captain Falcon, Ness, Little Mac, Pit, Palutena, R.O.B, Mr. Game and Watch, etc. That's why I'm going to Gamestop as soon as they open and buying all of the ones I want. I already have Samus pre-ordered, but I still want Mario, Kirby, Link, Pit, C.Falcon, and Little Mac. I'll probably knock off Kirby and Link on release day, then go for Pit and C.Falcon as soon as the second wave releases. Might get Mario and Little Mac later.
