For those of you that are into sports games, particularly baseball games - There was an announcement today that a new version of RBI baseball was coming soon for current gen / next gen consoles, as well as versions for mobile devices. Do you think we'll get it on the Wii U. I would expect it to be an eShop game only. http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/15/rbi-baseball-14/
Nintendo has not had a baseball game since 2K12 on the Wii/3DS, and seeing how 2K is out of the baseball business, this will probably be the best we get. I expect the game will employ simple graphics, but if the gameplay is anything close to the original RBI baseball, let alone MLB Power Pros, I would be happy. I know a lot of people even to this day that play RBI Baseball tournaments in the spring on their NES's.
2) Probably not coming out for Wii U, a brand new developer can only learn so many new systems at once, and the Wii U probably won't be a priority.
It probably depends on how they're making the game. Like Unity, for example. If you make a game with Unity then you can easily port it to the Wii U. I think it's possible it could come to the Wii U, but I wouldn't get my hopes up, either.
I am certainly maintaining low expectations. But even if they took the original Tengen game, upgraded the 2D graphics to make them sharper and a little more detailed, added some current rosters and maybe did some team-specific ballparks, that would be awesome. I would imagine that since it will be coming to either or both of the Xbox One and PS4, it can't be completely terrible. They must have some standards of what can be released on their consoles.
The part that scares me the most is that it is also coming to mobile devices. Mobile games aren't exactly known for their depth or smooth gameplay.
There is speculation that this game could be Baseball Superstars 14, a mobile game that has some great gameplay and is very similar in ways to MLB Power Pros. I have read recently that the game is for PS3, X360, and IOS/Android only. So it looks like the Wii-U isn't making the cut.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
Doesn't sound like we're going to get it. As seandaddy commented, they've only specified release on the PS3/360 and iOS/Android. Oh well, we've got plenty of sports games on the wii u already... Said no one ever.
Yeah, it's looking like it's going to be current-gen only as well as mobile. The PS4 and XBox One gamers aren't even getting this one. I'm not expecting much from it, but like someone else said, a game like this would be perfect for the Wii U.
I'll stick with The Show. That game always delivers!

The Show is absolutely where it's at, but this would have been a nice casual play game I think. I will unfortunately have to shell out for a PS4, just so I can get some sports games. And just like your profile picture shows, I will also be getting PGA Tour 14 on day one.
They need to bring back MVP Baseball. That and backyard baseball (which would be perfect for kids and us kids at heart) need to come back to nintendo.
MVP baseball 2005 was probably the greatest sports game I ever played. I must have put 300-500 hours in that game and with the possible exception of melee I don't think I ever played a game as much in my life.
