I think a lot of the comments in this thread more or less accentuate the reason this most likely isn't gonna happen. Not the install base or the analytics or that shenanigans. It's the people saying "I'm not gonna pick it up, but I still want it on the console."

This is just people being honest with themselves. CoD hasn't got much of an audience on the Wii U. It's simply not their demographic. But that's what happens. We buy Nintendo games with our limited money because that's what most of us are here for. Hell, my wallet can barely keep up with Nintendo's offerings, let alone any 3rd parties that slip onto the system. It's sad, but while I'd love to see the support, I don't think we would be able to justify it, and I certainly won't have the money to get in on the action.

The thing is that that IS a problem with the install base. A console should have a distribution of people interested in different things, but the Wii U is a system used almost exclusively by kids and hardcore Nintendo fans.

There is also another issue with install base. The percentage of people who both want to play CoD and only have a Wii U to play it on is minuscule. I like to call that group the "exclusive base". If you own another system, Activision really doesn't benefit much from putting it on Wii U.

The hardcore Nintendo fans are actually the people who DO care about 3rd party support, though. Someone who just buys Mario, DK, Zelda, etc. Nintendo exclusives and won't consider 3rd party games really are just being stubborn, IMO, but a lot of the problem stems from 3rd parties and misconception from the public, as well.

When CoD Black Ops II was set for release, people were asking if ALL the DLC would be on Wii U, and Treyarch basically said it would be there, but it never did, and the same thing happened to Injustice: Gods Among Us. You can't play as Martian Man or the other one, and the DLC is at "screw you over" prices. Those types of situations are 3rd party faults that happened AFTER people had already bought the game at full launch price. A lot of people used those types of reasons to ignore 3rd parties on Wii U, or Wii U altogether, even if they didn't care about Wii U to begin with.

EDIT: Most of the people saying 3rd parties are out of place on Wii U, are the same people who wouldn't have bought 3rd parties on Wii U, anyway, and this true in most cases. People were going to buy Xbox or PS, regardless of whether Wii U had 3rd party support, and that is the same reason why people are still happily playing their Wii U's without much 3rd party support.

Black Ops 2 was terrible but I'd probably pick up this if it came to the Wii U. I'm currently having to get my online FPS fix via Killzone: Mercenary on my Vita!

I'm still waiting for Zatanna, one day, one day!

Most dlc I don't care about but Warner Bros who do actually support the Wii u always have dlc I want with their DC games yet it doesn't get released for the Wii U version so I end up with the PC version.

Well they did make Black ops 1 for the original DS,so i don't see why the 3DS can't get this one. It would be hilarious the 3DS got it and the Wiiu got nothing.

they should just make it for DS then release it on Wii U VC and it could still be played on the 3DS... Boom, best business strategy lol

I would like it to come over (since I actually liked the campaign in Black Ops II), but I'll be realistic.

Nintendo fans should just get used to the fact that we're not going to get the next Batman Arkham game, the next Call of Duty, the next Madden, the next FIFA, the next Assassin's Creed, or any other AAA heavy hitter.

If those games do come by some sort of miracle, that's fine (if they work properly), but if they never do, don't be surprised.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.

I am sure a clever person in an Activision office is monitoring the buzz around Splatoon. It may whet people's appetites for a CoD game. 2015 may be the year of the shooter.

I've had similar thoughts about fighting games and always wondered why the console that boasts Smash Bros is so light on fighting games.

Well, it's because Smash isn't a traditional fighting game. Much like Mario Kart isn't a traditional racing game, and Splatoon won't be your typical shooter. The thing about those titles is, yeah, you can take them really seriously and competitively, but you can also screw around in them. There's something about MK and Smash that appeals to the racing/fighting enthusiast AND the casual racer.

Games like CoD ... they really don't have a casual play mode. It's hard to enjoy the game when almost everyone is taking it so seriously. So, I don't think it's logical to think that if Mario Kart, then Forza or if Smash then Tekken or if Splatoon then CoD/Battlefield. They may be in the same genre, but they have inherent differences that make them too different to be partnered together.

Yah, as people have previously mentioned Treyarchs via cod website as of today allows nintendo users to link their official nintendo account with the cod website creating speculation that Black Ops 3 will indeed be released on the wii u. IMO I can only see this as a positive as having a AAA title thats not nintendo being released on the wii u is something new and welcomed. I personally enjoy the black ops series much more than the newer ones. Also zombies being my favorite part of black ops, will add a refreshing dynamic to the wii u. I think I'll probably buy it. Never thought I'd say this but we need fist person shooters on the wii u. I don't even know if Metriod Prime will come out for the wii u....

They took time out before and came back. After Call of Duty 3, they initially skipped Modern Warfare before returning with World at War, followed a year later with a belated port of COD4. Sadly, the Wii never did get Modern Warfare 2, but that at least establishes some precedent.

Why they would want to come back though, I don't know. Maybe there's something there with NX that excites them, so this is their way to get restarted here with dedicated Nintendo hardware. That's about the only way I can stretch this and have it make even the slimmest of sense.

It's also Treyarch's turn, and they're of course more familiar with Nintendo's PowerPC based architecture than anyone else handling this franchise, since they've always gotten the porting duties even when it was an Infinity Ward project. And I guess that you could theorize that they possibly didn't want to divert resources from Black Ops III last year by also working to bring over Sledgehammer's Call of Duty debut.

That said, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Interesting points you make, but keep in mind you're also talking Wii vs. Wii U here. Wii had an absolutely gigantic install base compared to the Wii U, so obviously it was much easier for Activision to justify coming back to the system even after skipping a release. I don't know what the sales numbers are for all the Wii CoD's, but I'm sure they're much better than Blops 2 or Ghosts... Which is rather sad actually because the Wii U CoD's are obviously superior being proper HD versions rather than the watered down Wii versions.

Admittedly, Black Ops 3 has the best chance of getting a Wii U release being that it's from Treyarch and they have(OR had...) a Nintendo development team. But like I said in another post, I don't want the game unless it's done right this time with proper support and most importantly, all the DLC. The way we got completely screwed over with the DLC packs for Blops 2 and Ghosts was completely bunk. I desperately wanted all those Zombies and Extinction DLC maps and was willing to pay full price for them, but nope, Activision didn't want my money. There's just no excuse for that crap. The Wii U is obviously very capable of handling DLC.

If they don't announce a Wii U version along side the others later this month, then I'm pretty much giving up all hope that the system will ever see another CoD.

I completely agree with the dlc issues, I bought COD black ops 2 for the wii u and ultimately sold it because there was no dlc and zombies, being my favorite and most played mode in black ops. With that said, I'd buy black ops 3 even if only zombie dlc came out but I know that'll never happen lol.

Yeah, the DLC situation with the last 2 CoD's on the Wii U was incredibly frustrating and difficult. Treyarch and Activision couldn't even be bothered to respond to all our requests. Not even a simple "We are not releasing the DLC for [insert BS excuse here]." Nope, they just ignored us completely. It didn't help matters that the cesspool that is Miiverse was infested with idiot trolls claiming this DLC pack was coming soon or that DLC pack was coming soon or the Die Rise map was coming soon etc... I got so burned out on it all that I went back to Mario Kart, where we actually get tons of quality DLC, guaranteed.

I remember how shocked I was when out of nowhere Treyarch dropped Nuketown 2025 on us. A nice surprise considering it was free and it's a really cool map, but I was still disappointed because in the end all I wanted was all those Zombies maps. I frankly kind of suck at free-for-all, team death match and all those other competitive modes. Zombies is my go to mode.

Sounds pretty much like me. Zombies was the whole reason I bought Black Ops 1 and 2, especially 2. I played the heck out of the one Zombie map we got on each game, and was pretty much the expert most of the time while playing online. I was better than most people I ran into, and usually ended up saving the team a lot as well. However, I can only stand playing the same Zombie Map over and over again for so long. I really hope that, if Black Ops 3 does indeed make it to Wii U, they'll finally give us the DLC so I can have some more variety in Zombies.

Beep.
That is all.
