compared to the dsi it is. i hate the glossy finish. should have went with matte like like the dsi.
No way! My DSi would always get covered in little marks every time it gets slightly bumped against something, some permanent. The glossy finish on the 3DS is great for me.
To me the Wii U is basically a longer and curvier Wii. The GameCube was unique, the N64 was unique, the DS Lite was unique, the Wii was unique for it's time (even though it looked like a DVD player).
The 3DS and Wii U don't look too different from their predecessors, and this makes me think that Nintendo is playing it too safe. To be fair, the Game Boy Color had the same basic design as the original Game Boy, but at least Nintendo took things in a new direction with the GBA and GBA SP.
Come on Nintendo, be creative with your system designs again! Don't rest on your laurels. The 3DS and Wii U are what the DS and Wii should have been all along.
Um... from what we know, no one has used a tablet as a main controller for their console. Which is innovating and is thus new.
This type of controller was done in the 1980's. Remember the Game Boy? Same concept, a controller with a screen that could play games. That's all the Wii U controller is, just a big handheld.
And I was talking about Nintendo's system designs. The actual Wii U console looks too similar to the original Wii. It's not as unique looking as the PS3 and Xbox are to their predecessors.
You already mentioned how different Nintendo's previous consoles are from one another. Wii was different from the GameCube. The SNES looks like an NES. We've seen this before. Beyond that is the question: Who cares? Worrying about what a console looks like is almost as bad as worrying about it's name.
As for the tablet controller, no we have not seen this before. It has so many features you can't compare the two. And Nintendo has already demonstrated some new and innovative ways to play games. See Wii sports Golf. Placing the Wii U on the ground and swinging the Wiimote over it. Classic.
Just for you. "I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear." - Freddie Mercury
It's probably about the same size as the current PS3/360 models, only that it's all strecthed out in the back instead of making the system taller when stood up vertically.

Hey man, it's still a change that you forgot to point out regardless of how minor it may be, and it looks better. Since it breaks up the color instead of just being a 'one color blob' like it was before the final design. But yup, extremely uuber minor it is. They need to stick a sharks fin on that Wii U damnit.
A sharks fin? LOL I actually think Nintendo could take a few design cues from Microsoft. The Xbox 360 Slim is a pretty snazzy looking console. Or maybe they could keep "copying" Apple make the Wii U look like a Mac Mini
