So I've been working this summer, and I have just enough to buy a wii u. The problem is that I want the game wind Waker, and I don't know if I should buy the wii u package that comes with WW and the Zelda themed pad, or to get the Mario Kart 8 bundle and use the offer to also get wind waker. The other problem is that I don't know how much the Mario Kart 8 bundle costs after taxes and all that, and I have only 340 dollars.
But I want to hear what you think I should get.
You still need like $30 more in order to buy the MK8 bundle(which I would recommend). The MK8 bundle costs $330 BEFORE taxes, but it would be far more worthwhile for you to just scrounge up another $30, if you ask me.
It comes with the console, MK8, a red Wii remote+ w/ red Wii Wheel, then you get you choice of 1 of 4 games(U.S.), one of which is Wind Waker HD.

Honestly, the only reason to go with the Wind Waker bundle over the Mario Kart 8 Bundle is if you really want the Zelda GamePad, or the free digital Hyrule Hystoria. Otherwise the MK8 bundle includes more stuff, and you can still get Wind Waker with the free game promotion. Sounds like you've made a decision already, but oh well.
I just wanted to chime in on this topic since I picked up the WW bundle a few months ago. While the Wii remote and wheel are nice to have, I really like the detail on the Zelda gamepad. In case you haven't seen it:
As much as I like the Zelda games, I still think the MK8 bundle is better. Any of these deals are better than what I got, though, which was $350 for the Wii U(I got it on launch day), +tax, and it didn't come with anything except Nintendo Land I still enjoyed it for far more than $50 worth, during that time period, though. You can't really lose.

The other reason is if you hate optical disks. (Get Mario Kart 8 as a download as well - still get the free game).
Digital Stuff works better (And there is no fan noise whilst playing a digital game).

If you can afford it, the Mario Kart 8 bundle is a MUCH better value. It's $330 as opposed to the Windwaker bundle which is only $300, but look at what that extra $30 will get you...
extra $30 = physical copy of Mario Kart 8 (free game offer gets you digital Windwaker, so either way you get digital Windwaker), Wii Remote, Wii Wheel
So basically you're getting a physical copy of Mario Kart 8, a Wiimote and a wheel for that extra $30. That's a lot of value for $30 if you ask me. Sure, you could get the Windwaker bundle but you KNOW you're gonna end up buying Mario Kart 8 anyways, and that will cost you $50-60 right there. So already you're losing money by going the Windwaker bundle route. Plus you still don't have the Wiimote and wheel that would have come with the MK bundle.
Get the MK bundle. Unless you're a collector and insist on the Zelda inspired gamepad. Personally though, I keep a silicone cover on my pad so I don't have to deal with fingerprints, and if you do that you won't see the design anyways.
If you live in the US, order through Newegg.com and you won't pay sales tax. Although SOME states are still free from sales tax through Amazon, but that depends on what state you live in. I bought my Wii U, my PS4, my Xbox One, my 3DS and my brother's Wii U all from Newegg. That "no sales tax" saves some serious cash.

i got a bundle that came with the Basic WiiU + NSMBU (+ DLC) + Zelda HD, got it for around 275... then i got Mario Kart 8 and choose Pikmin 3 for free, i had an HDD so space wasnt a problem for me
So unless you cant find that bundle, ill say go with Mario Kart 8, you get a free game and Mario kart 8 replayabilty !
Wow, the Zelda game pad looks beautiful, but getting the Mario Kart 8 bundle would be a better choice. Plus, i already have Hyrule Historia, so that wouldn't really be necessary.
Anyway, thanks for all your opinions and advice, it really helped me out!
I don't know if you'll have much success finding the MK8 bundle, as I've heard it's largely sold out, but I don't think the Zelda bundle is a bad deal either. If you can make a little more money to buy MK8 by the end of July, then you can get MK8 and the free Pikmin 3 download, so you'd be paying $30 more total to get Pikmin 3 vs that Mario Wiimote, but Pikmin 3 is worth $20 more than the Wiimote, so it's a pretty similar deal either way. Even if you start to factor in the more marginal extras like Zelda GamePad artwork vs Wii wheel accessory it works out pretty similar I'd say. Personally, I'd probably go the Zelda route to get that snazzy GamePad, as I already have a bunch of Wiimotes from the Wii, and I know I won't actually use the Wii wheel.

This is what I have. I like this controller better than the plain one, tho it does seem like the better value is with the MK8 bundle. I traded in NSMBU to get 20 off and a free download of NSMBU. Thinking about getting Luigi DLC so I would in essence have the Wind Waker and NSMBU bundle.
