The 3DS was never selling as badly as the Wii U, and it's high price and lack of games were fixed by Christmas so it never had a poor holiday season. The Wii U has now had two awful Decembers and it's quite a different situation to the 3DS. I've been fairly optimistic about it turning around with Mario Kart, but now I'm not so sure. I think it's now safe to say the third parties are done with the console, and Nintendo already seem spread too thin between Wii U and 3DS, and now they're going to be working on this QOL platform too. Are they really going to be able to produce enough games to keep the interest up on their own?
I know forum-users are not representative of the masses, but a lot of people are now just waiting until the hardware price crashes. With 4-5 great games a year, they can just wait for the console to die off and then pick one up for dirt cheap and play through the 15-20 must have titles that have built up.
Whoa... 15-20 must have titles would crush the competition.
I'm actually waiting the wii u to drop to ouya level prices, £100, might sound unrealistic but the shops have been slashing the wii u's prices a fair amount, so don't think its too unrealistic personally to see the odd store just trying to get rid of them eventually to make way for shelf space for the other consoles.
I wouldn't consider the Wii U a failure yet? Its near dire but not failure levels yet. Buy I wouldn't call the PS4 or Xbox One potential failures when they both have bug games coming.

The way I see it, if the Wii U falls into obscurity, but Nintendo lives on, us Wii U owners can enjoy loads of gems the rest of the gaming world won't know about.
It'll be our gaming secret.
I agree with this. I am not too concerned about how wii u does in the mythical and fictional "console war" this generation. I am not even much concerned about weak 3rd party support (I didn't want to buy Madden on my Wii U anyway). Gamecube was soundly beaten as was N64 and overall Nintendo was still making more money than the winners in the console wars (yeah handheld market was the main reason but those consoles still turned profits as well). Nintendo has hit some rough financial times but considering the past 30 years in this business they have made piles of cash and a few years recently where they lost money is not in anyway as bad as the doom and gloom click-bait stories and anti-nintendo fanboys want it to be.
Nintendo will not abandon the Wii U and I think pretty much everyone who has one bought it for Nintendo games. We will get those games and Nintendo will probably get some profit out of the console by the end as well and we will both move forward to the next Nintendo home console. Losing the "console wars" doesn't mean much except for bragging rights in fanboy wars. I don't exclusively play Nintendo games alone, but I have plenty of games to play on my Wii U and probably play it the most out of all my consoles and am excited about several games I know are coming in the future.
@Peach64
We've known that Mario Kart 8 was coming out in spring for a while. So you thought that it would change its fortune, but now you can't wait for spring or something?
This is the worst thread ever. This is exactly why I am saying that people need a time machine, otherwise it's BS.

That was more or less what he said, the Wii U will never be a major player next gen. That's true. It may pick up & do okay, but no juggernaut like the 3DS, Xbox 360, or PS4. The 3DS picked up at this point in its lifetime. I'm looking forward to what NIntendo will have to offer in the future, but it's not looking like a must-have right now. Another thing, 3rd party support can be much better than Madden. Shin Megami Tensei IV, Watchdogs (will no doubt be amazing when it launches), GTA V (overrated, but fun & you can't deny it had great comedy), Mass Effect 3 (debate the ending all you want, I'm enjoying it so far & I've heard good things about it too), Rayman Orgins, Resident Evil Revelations, not Battlefield 4 (kinda good that it skipped Wii U), & more are great 3rd party games. Some people may hate me for daring to say great 3rd party games exist & say that Nintendo games must inherently be better than any other developers, & they are good, but I'm sick of hearing fanboys on both sides. Wii U could've been better. A botched account system which has taken 3 years to be complete, a non-developer friendly CPU (PS3 did do this to an even greater degree, so Nintendo's not alone, but it still doesn't make it fine), few 3rd party games, & a slow wait time for 1st party games. The 1st party games do look good, & there is good indie support, but you can't deny what Nintendo could've done better.

I'd say I approve but I don't wish that reputation or fanbase on any decent shooter.
