I absolutely agree with the HDMI cable, however. I cannot see selling an HD system with a composite video cable when we're starting to see flat panel TVs on the market that only have HDMI input. Today is the opposite of the situation when the Wii launched where many people still had CRTs: there's probably still a number of them out there, but I seriously doubt we'd see people turned away from picking up the system because they didn't have a TV with HDMI inputs on it.

I don't think I got HDMI cables with the Blu-Ray player I got a few months ago and I don't think I've yet seen a TV that only has HDMI inputs. I could be wrong on that though. If people don't have a spare HDMI cable floating around the house then they can probably grab one at a Target, Big W or Red Dor or wherever so that's not that big a problem.

No. It got one because it was a small, handheld device, and people don't like to leave their small, handheld devices around.

Anyway, you're all forgetting... WIIMOTES! With how much they show off with them on a lot of Wii U demos, I'm confident we'll get our fifth set this year XD

I don't know, but I hope for Nintendo's sake the North American version comes with a free game. That usually makes it easier for people to part with their cash. In Japan, Wii Sports was sold separately, but things are very different over there. When Nintendo's launched consoles as standalones, at least in NA, they've had less than stellar sales. Remember when they stopped manufacturing GameCubes for a few months when supply was WAY higher than demand? I'd hate to see that happen again.

TBH from what I've seen I don't think there were that many demos that used the Wii remotes. There was the Pikmin 3 demo which they insisted on being played with the WiiMote and two of the Nintendo Land demos that had it for multiplayer but the rest were using the GamePad and/or Pro Controller. I don't think there were any games that needed something other than the GamePad on show.....

If there was a game like Wii U Sports on show then I'd be giving WiiMotes a definite yes. With Nintendo Land being the big "demo" game? I'm not so sure.

I highly doubt they'll include a Wii Remote.
Most games won't need it and most people probably already have one from the Wii.
Anyone who doesn't can go out and buy one, just like I'm going to have to do with the Pro controller as I don't see that coming with it either.

Wii Remotes (w/motion plus) are mandatory in some of the games in Nintendo Land, they are mandatory in Ubisoft's Sports Connection if I understand correctly. They're part of the identity of the console - swords with wii remotes, shields/crossbows with Gamepad - Baseball bat with the Wii remote, baseball glove with the Gamepad....

I am positive they will be included.

Really? okay... but still, that's part of the fun. They have to focus on the family/living room stuff. That's the appeal of the console to the masses. Tablets/smartphones don't do that.

@Koos
WiiMotes in the box are definitely possible but from what they've shown and what they've done in the past I wouldn't be banking on it. No games shown required it for play and being a part of multiplayer would only be a reason to include it if there were two controllers bundled with previous consoles. That doesn't tend to happen.

It's highly probable that a Wii U Sports game or similar comes in down the line bundled with a WiiMote and it's guaranteed that they'll keep selling WiiMotes and probably expect most Wii U owners to have one. Does that mean it'll be in the box? Personally I don't think it's likely given none of the games shown seem to require it.... at least not for single player.

I'd be extremely surprised if they did include one, and if they do then hopefully it won't raise the cost of the system.
I suppose it'd be nice to get one more so then I can have 4 Wii Remote Plus's, rather than having one of my older one (the one that came with my Wii at launch in fact, still working perfectly despite being bashed around a bit) sitting next to three Wii Remote Plus's.

Well I will be extremely disappointed if they don't. Not because I need one - I'm not using anything else than my Gold one, but I think it will hurt game development, reaction/reviews of the console and sales. I'm sticking with my prediction that they will.

I don't think this will be there. Remember that you enter the serial number for Club Nintendo registry.

I hope it comes with a Wiimote too, but I have my doubts. Just look at this bit of IGN interview.

IGN: a lot of these games, and Nintendo Land too, require you to have several Wii Remotes. And even a game like Pikmin, primarily the control is with the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. Are you looking at bundling multiple controllers with the system at launch? Because it seems like a lot of these games, to be fully understood, need several controllers.

Fils-Aime: So, again, we're not going to talk about our configuration. But what I would tell you is, we're cognizant... US 40 million units, globally 100 million units. Against all those units there's a lot of Remotes and Nunchuks, a few Balance Boards. And so we want to leverage that installed base and not have the consumer to pay for another accessory when they already may be fully satiated with what they have in the household. We're going to be very thoughtful. That's the beauty of what we have, all of that is backward compatible. The consumer is going to feel great about that aspect of our value.

Reggie's right, I already have 4 Wiimotes. But I worry about who will bother including motion based control options in their games if Wiimotes don't come with the new systems.
