Hey everyone, don't worry, this isn't another one of those noob "is the WII u better than the 3ds" thread. (cuz we all know it is)
When the wii first came out, I was put off by the lack of HD support. That has since changed when I first laid eyes on the Wii U. MY gal and I love coop games so I was thinking of either getting a Wii U to play coop games with her, or TWO Nintendo 3DSs. Since I have been out of the Nintendo scene for quite some time now, I'd really like to get some insight here.
I don't own a Wii and I don't own a DS so each of the platforms have games which I would absolutely LOVE to play. The question is, which one should I get FIRST?
Hi there sensei, thanks for the input. Since the 3DS supports DS games, I was thinking of getting the 3DS instead. So right now its really down to the question of Wii U VS 2x 3DSs.
Money really isn't an issue because I'm a working man (not yet married, no kids) . Its just that each platform has so many games from this generation and the one prior (wii and DS) so I would like to dedicate the time to just one platform for now.
3DS, for the moment. It has more co-op games than the Wii U. But If you don't mind playing older games, you have the entire library of the Wii 1 at your disposal, full of fun multiplayer games.
Hey Kidd, in my opinion this is not a good place to ask, since these guys mostly talk about games - they don't play, or in some cases, don't even own a console. A rule of thumb for me is, never take advice from people who are more messed up than I am :=)
Both systems are cool and have lots of things to do, if you like videogames.
I think for Co-op games the Wii U would be a better investment but the 3DS currently has a bigger selection. So if you want to play a lot of games now then 3DS. If it is something that you want to get more into further down the line then I would suggest the Wii U
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It certainly is nice to see many people giving their own input and feedback here Thanks y'all, i appreciate it.
Guess I'll just have to go with the double 3DS systems then.
Now for the next question , does the extra size of the 3DS XL make a big difference compared to a regular 3DS? Does the XL have improved battery life to support the extra bit of pixels?

I'm pretty sure the XL can last 75% longer than the regular one. The XL is better in every way to me, so I would recommend it. I had the regular before XL BTW. I like the bigger screens and longer lasting battery. I'd say it's totally worth an extra $30, especially with tons of digital game bundles out there now.
I got my blue XL on launch, but I really like the Animal Crossing XL.
If you like RPGs and handheld games, get a 3DS. If you're more of a hardcore gamer and you like big-scale console games like Skyward Sword, then get the Wii U.
Both are backwards compatible with their respective predecessors, so you got an instant library of games to choose from.

@Scar392,
Good to know. The PS Vita currently doesn't have an impressive battery life and I get frustrated when I take it out for long hours of play.
@LzQuacker
Haha nah, in Malaysia we just say "you all la". The "La" at the back is a culture thing. I was educated in a background of strong American influence and I just got hooked on the southern style "y'all" expression.
@Tertis
As much as I would love to play the zelda games, the priority comes in me getting the right system in terms of co-op play. I'm excited to play MH on my full screen HD Tv as much as I am excited playing pokemon black and white.
I just figured out something though, buying 2 3DS systems also means having to purchase two copies of the same game EACH time. (GASP!). Please don't suggest the R4 method. I've been a long time supporter of the companies I love so I rather fork out the cash then to pirate them.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 has co-op but you need 2 game cards. Tetris Axis is $10 on the eShop which is good IMO. Download play on 3DS can also make it so you only have to buy one game to multiplayer which is awesome. You can play Mario Kart 7, Mario Tennis Open, and Tetris Axis as multiplayer with only one card FYI.
Oh ya, and Moster Hunter is co-op, but you'll need 2 cards, and it won't go online unless you have a Wii U.
As for Wii U: Sonic, Tekken, Mario, and tons of Wii games for under $10 at Gamestop have good multiplayer. VC is better on Wii and soon Wii U than 3DS.
3D visuals are awesome though, IMO.
Forget the 3DS, that is what I did. One system is enough and the Wii U is a fine system especially when you add the Wii backlog and do not have a PS3 or aX360. Plus, like you mentioned, do you really want to buy the same game twice? Besides Wii U on a HD TV with 5.1 surround sound is cooler then a 3DS little dinky portable screen and wearing headphones.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
