If Nintendo released N64 games for Wii U, but only the games that were released on Wii, would that make you happy? I for one feel that the biggest problem is that the overwhelming majority of VC released on Wii U have already been released on Wii. I have no interest in Super Mario 64 or OoT for example. I don't understand how angry people were getting when SMB3 took a while for release. What I loved most about VC were the games I never got to play. Like TG16 games.

I agree that the Wii U's VC offering hasn't been quite as good as the Wii's. I'd personally like crossplay between Wii U and 3DS NES games, a wider variety of systems and games on the Wii U (Europe and Japan have had DS games since Summer or so, and North America still doesn't?), quicker catalog updates, and free upgrades from Wii to Wii U. Unfortunately, I doubt this will change any time soon. I do appreciate that the Wii U has gotten games such as EarthBound and Duck Hunt, though, as well as GBA games. I'm hoping the library will expand some time soon, because I'd love to buy more retro games.

It would for me simply because I'd actually get to play them given my classic controller is dead and those pretty much don't exist anymore.

Just want to clarify that I am aware that the VC games in the Wii U library only needs the gamepad. It is the VC games on the original Wii that often require a classic controller and it having a bigger library makes this still a problem.

Which brings me to my next point- I believe that so long as a game is not for sale in the Virtual Console service, it's ok to play a ROM. However, if and when that game ever does release for VC, I believe one is obligated to purchase it if they have already engaged in playing the ROM. So my plan is, use my new DSi XL for the DKC trilogies among other retro gems unavailable on Wii U, but I do so knowing that if any of those games ever release I will purchase them immediately.

That's just how I see it anyways...

Instead of focusing on punishing people for using roms they should focus on improving their own service and make it substantially better. That way the problem with roms will fade away a little bit.

Hopefully we'll be getting DS VC games for the Wii U soon, and eventually N64 and GCN VC. I'm also hopeful that we'll eventually get some third party consoles supported on the service.

If a game were available for a pittance but there probably wouldn't be many people playing the game... how many would still buy it - and who would they be? I see 5€ for a NES title a just price. If a price of a 30cm sub is too much to pay, then there wasn't much need for it in the first place.

Sorry, what? "If a game were available for a small amount of money, how many people would still buy it, and who would they be?"
Well, more people would buy it, because it's cheaper. They would be anyone with a 3DS who is interested in playing VC games. If you're trying to imply that less money would be made with a lower price, then I wholeheartedly disagree. The amount of people out there who wont even touch the VC service solely because of its price is very high, and there have been many games that I have considered buying if only they cost a little less. Maybe have considerable sales as an alternative to permanently slashing the price, but this logic of "Oh if we don't charge £4.50 for an NES game we wont make as much" is absurd. I thought I covered this with a line that says it all; Skyrim goes on sale for less. In this day and age, the prices just aren't competitive or worth it.

Not every business's, especially Nintendo's, pricing strategy is high volume, low price/profit margin. If you don't like premium pricing, than Nintendo may not be for you. May I suggest Sony, they can't drop the price of their games fast enough.

Anyway, I just bought a bunch of Wii U VC games last night and instead of worrying about what was not available, I only cared about what was!

Ive wondered this for awhile about the VC. on my wishlist i have Ninja Gaiden 3. but now I can't remove it from the wishlist on the eshop. It's not available to buy either and the release date was like 11/2013. It's weird and I wonder if anyone has an idea why that's the case?

I think you can't remove Wishlist items for a different system. If it is a 3DS wishlist Item then you may not be able to remove it from your wishlist on Wii U. Same if it is a Wii U wishlist item and you are on your 3DS. Just a thought.

I've removed 3DS wishlist games in the Wii U, I haven't removed Wii U wishlist games from the 3DS as they don't appear on there though.

You mean FE:PoR, Radiant Dawn is a Wii title which works perfectly well on Wii U.

Its not about having a business with premium prices, its about having 'premium prices' on 20+ year old games that in the current marketplace of games, just isn't worth it comparatively. Yeah, you have enough money to buy lots of expensive VC games and enjoy the ones that are available, but that is in no way an indication of how good a service it is or that they're well priced.

I don't get all this complaining. My Wii VC library nicely transferred to my Wii U. I just have to boot into Wii mode and I can download and play everything on my 1080p TV or I just use the gamepad mode when thats more convenient. Via the Wii VC the Wii U gives acces to an ungodly amount of retro games. Its a shame we will probably never see the Sega games on the Wii U side but its not like there would be lots of extra features in those re-releases.

I'm considering to get al the Phantasy Star games in the Wii VC. As I'm from the EU i can trade my Nintendo Stars for Wii points so it feels like getting those games for free. Sure getting a rom and using an emulator on a PC is cheaper but to me the convenience of the Wii U is unbeatable. I even got the special SNES Wii controller via Club Nintendo for that extra retro feeling. I'm still craving for more VC games and every week I look at the new releases. Things will only get better over time.

The complaining is all about the controller situation. To play Wii VC games on Wii U you need a Wii Remote and a Wii Classic Controller (Pro). The latter is discontinued so unless you still own a working one or you find it used for a decent price, virtually all games are unplayable outside of NES which Wii U VC has represented well.

Honestly at this point, I don't think we'll be seeing GCN games. I am hoping N64 games will be coming in the very-near future. Hopefully not after E3 2015.

I don't understand region locking for most of the games that have already been released on the VC at some point. Hopefully the service will have a strong comeback next year.

you can get a generic classic controller through amazon for about $7 bucks. i've had mine for two years and it works fine.

How do you know what the ideal price point is for VC games? Nintendo is well aware of the fact that there are people like you out there that claim prices are to high but the volume gained for the profit lost is not worth it for them. Just because you don't value the VC games doesn't mean Nintendo should follow. I'm not going to argue about whether or not a service is good or bad but instead just let my money talk.

Indeed. I still can get new Nintendo Classic controllers via my regular channels. Not that I need any. I have the original model (white, no grips). The improved model that came with the monster hunter special pack and the club Nintendo exclusive SNES one. I did decide against the golden one (Goldeneye 007 special, would have looked nice with the Zelda Wii Mote though).

Best thing about this thread is that I checked my Club Nintendo stars just in time. Around 4000 december 2014 stars where almost lost. Luckily there was stil time to trade them for 1000 wii points which in turn where put to good use (bought Phantasy Star 2!, still need to get PS 1 and PS 3 though)
