Was playing me some Metroid Prime Corruption on my 40 inch Wii U installed TV and was expecting my graphics to seem worse than my 32 inch wii installed via composite cables. I was unbelievably surprised how much better the game not only looked but played on the Wii. Noticed the same thing on Twilight Princess. Did not notice this difference with Skyward sword tho.
But the Metroid difference seemed huge.

I noticed people complaining about colors being washed out. I noticed in twilight princess that colors seems less dark, brighter especially in the first couple of screens. I for one like it better this way, things seem clearer. But yes things are brighter on the Wii U than the Wii. But again, everything is clearer, more crisp, and way better to look at. Makes even older Wii games seem new and fresh (on HDTV).

Yes, it was set up 480p using component cables. I originally had it at 480i with its "from package" cables and saw a huge different when I changed the cables and this settings. I was expecting to see a noticeable stair effect switching from the 32 inch to 40 inch TV on the jaggies. To my surprise, what I saw was smoother edges and brighter color.

On the new setup is it on 1080p or do you change it to 480p?

My Wii U is set to run on 1080 as a default
I did not mess with any of the Wii settings for the Wii U, so I am assuming the Wii U is running the Wii at 480p or 720p (upscaled) not 1080.
There is a small border (black) when I switch to the Wii from the Wii U, not sure if anyone else has noticed this. This border goes away when in Wii U mode.
The border is small and you forget its there when playing (at least in my experience.)

Wasn't it confirmed that there is NO upscaling?
Or do you think the difference in clarity comes from using digital hdmi over analogue composite cables on your old setup?

I was not using composite, I was using component. It could be a result of a better video card rendering the game. Could also be anti aliasing at work. However IGN stated that there is indeed some up scaling going on so I decided to check for myself. Its possible that it up scales to a lower to 720 not 1080.
All I know is that the games I tried looked better. on the Wii U. We will not know till the big n says the truth of why however.

I just saw a article online of a guy showing his wii u, its definitely upscaling and not upressing. his TV was reporting 720 tho, so I think that what we are seeing as an improvement and why we all heard that its not 1080p, it might be just 720p

I will try monster hunter tri later on today and see how it look, because that looks pretty rough on my wii.

All the articles about Wii U not upscaling were writen in 2011, its possible Nintendo changed that for fear of backlash.

I just read on the German pc games website that the wii u indeed does scale up wii games - but only NTSC games, PAL games are displayed with the wiis original highest resolution ...

Can someone clarify/tryout?
It would be really interesting to know!

Does this work on PAL Wii U's? I heard it doesn't but I'd like to know if there's any option or difference for our Wii U.
