Topic: Wii U Trade in Questions

So the time has come that I have decided to get rid of my Wii U. What it comes down too is there is just nothing on it that piques my interest on it anymore. Now I am not looking for reasons to keep it but I have some questions on trading/selling it. And I hope I can get some honest answers.

Concerning the digital purchases I made, VC, Eshop games etc. Are they tied to the system? Like if for some reason I decided to get another Wii U (or the NX grabs my attention and the digital library is able to be moved from a Wii U to NX) is there a way that later on I can get back my digital purchases or am I SOL?

@Tasuki It's tied to the NNID but the NNID is tied to the system so you pretty much lose everything if you sell.

@Grumblevolcano There is a way to recover a NNID and all the purchases tied to it. They aren't as tied to the system as some people think. They are only allowed to be on 1 system at a time.

@Tasuki Something like you are talking about would be a good question for Nintendo. I would recommend holding onto it, at least until you see what the NX is and whether or not you are going to purchase it. There may not be a way to recover an old NNID on the NX, but there might be a way to transfer it from the Wii U to the NX. I know NNID can be recovered on Wii U, there have been lots of stories about that.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Your best bet is to contact Nintendo if you get a new system, otherwise you're out of luck.

If you do contact Nintendo regarding this, reply back to this thread. I am interested to know what they tell you.

I'd say keep your Wii U if you're still in a phase when you're thinking you may buy another one. People who buy things only to then mistakenly sell them and buy another of the exact same things don't compute with me. Oh and the whole NX thing is also another reason why you should wait as obviously no one knows anything about it. What's gonna change in the next 3-4 months before the NX is shown that means you have to get rid ASAP?

Oh and what does SOL mean, apart from the Latin word for the Sun?

@TheLastLugia You will have to Google what SOL means as I can't say it here. And I am pretty much 95% sure that I won't buy another one but in case for some reason I do I just wanted to know.

I would keep it for the NX. I know you may get a better value if you trade it in for the NX if you wanted that

Best bet is to sell it on eBay or such like, with all the eshop purchases listed as included, and price it accordingly.

The only way you can decouple your NNID from the console, without losing your purchases, is to transfer it to another Wii U, with Nintendo's help.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@Lzeon Honestly, I am not sure I really want that. Sadly I hae noticed I am just not into Nintendo like I use to be. I have found myself playing my PS4 alot more this gen. This isn't a dig at Nintendo or I am going to the darkside lol but my tastes just seem to have changed if that makes sense.

In theory wouldn't it be possible, say if the NX were backwards compatible the way one might expect, you could get your WiiU things back in the "WiiU menu". I'm not sure it worked that way with Wii to WiiU unless you had it on an SD card but this time it could work. Just a thought...

I guess you could skip the trade in and do a drop test. Then, you can forget all about the Wii U and your digital purchases forever. Hope this helps.

@SCAR That got a chuckle out of me I'll admit. At least it would be one less Wii U that would be inevitably brought up as the seemingly 50 million Wii U's there are out there that are first class dust collectors, at least that's what it seems reading discussions about Wii U lately. I'm surprised it's took so long for that 'd' word to be brought up in this topic!

@Lzeon I thought that was established once I became a mod at Pushsquare.

In all seriousness though I still play my older Nintendo systems, mainly NES, through Gamecube. Sadly the Wii U just didn't click with me. Which it does make me sad but I juse don't see the point in buying Wii U games if I am not enjoying them just to support Nintendo.
