Does anyone think that they'll make a new Wii Remote for the Wii U? Motion Plus is an obvious addition. And then rechargeable instead of AA batteries. Other than that, I can't really see what they could add to it, though. Perhaps some sort of new design.

Or how about just a new nunchuck? That also has motion plus technology and a clickable joystick. The Wii remote and nunchuk setup is short on buttons.

Same hardware. Probly just label the packaging with Wii/WiiU on separately sold remotes and nchuks.

I honestly don't know, but I doubt it. They make more money with the add-on (I don't know the exact price, I have never bought a Motion Plus, but I know one needs to pay extra), and it's easy to get rechargeable batteries (or a Wii remote charger).
If my memory doesn't fail me, I've only seen the old Wii remotes along with the Gamepad, never a knew one... If this is a new thing they'll be releasing, I don't know about it.
I'll do some quick research...

I think a redesign would be nice, perhaps allowing for more buttons on top and underneath where the thumb and index finger are kept.

I doubt they will consider this though. They seem happy with their current design.

Well, if there is a new remote, I doubt they would bring it out at launch, because between the system and all the controllers already, I think it would just seem too much. They introduced the motion plus halfway through the wii's life, maybe later than half, so it wouldn't surprise me if it came later.

Honestly, I'd kinda like a circle pad underneath the A button and put the plus, home and minus buttons underneath it.

That's a good question, besides full motion to the nunchuck, I see no reason to change the controller

You're content with having only four buttons easily accessible in the regular control scheme?

Most controllers have twice that, why not add one or two more?

Your fingers and thumbs have access to more buttons on the snes controller than they do with the wii remote and nunchuck setup. That's why snes games require a classic controller.

The IR Pointer and the motion control substitute for the lack of buttons. I think the extra buttons will be useless.

IR doesn't substitute for any buttons.. Motion control is a fairly imprecise way of enacting exact commands. ie. moving left opposed to moving forward.

If you aren't precise or it recognizes the wrong motion, you could 'press' an entirely different button, so to speak.

I'm just wondering why some people are so against the option. The plus and minus, and 1 and 2 buttons are all but useless in the regular setup, what's so bad about optional buttons in a more convenient location?

The idea the Wii remote is the absolute best it could ever be, and discussion of a revision is just absurd, seems a bit naive. Anything can be improved.

Yeah, no. Like AlexSays said, the IR pointer and motion control are not substitutes for buttons. They're different methods of input. That would be like saying a joystick could be substituted for a button. In a few cases, that is true, just as it is for motion replacing buttons, but most games just use "wag the wii remote" as a button. That's not very good use of the motion technology.

All the good games do it right.

This is do agree with, but Motion Plus is precise enough, and again, the good games do it just fine.

Putting them some place else still doesn't make them any more useful.

Yes anything can be improved, but the Wii remote isn't in a dire need of a revision.

The Wii remote and Nunchuk aren't going to be used much anyways when the Wii U rolls around. Most games will be built around the GamePad or the Pro Controller.

How about a cell phone sized touch screen on the remote?

Putting them in a place where you can actually use them doesn't make them more useful?

I think that's like the textbook definition of being more useful. lol

Lol no that's not what I meant. Moving them else where would still make them useless cause most games only use them as extras anyway (like bringing up menus, etc.).

Now we're thinkin'! Even two buttons there would provide a lot more freedom.

Just look at how many buttons standard controllers have.. how often do they have 'too many' buttons? Devs always find a good use for them, this would be no different.

That's the point. They only use them as extras because it would be ignorant to use them for something important when they're mostly inaccessible! lol

A lot of games are criticized as having 'waggle' and extra buttons would alleviate these complaints by mapping the waggle functions to tangible buttons. Who wouldn't like the extra option?

I'm holding the Wii remote in my hand right now, and I have no problem accessing those bottom buttons. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

This is a good argument, but like I said before, all the good games do it good enough.

If Nintendo does add extra buttons to this thing, the remote itself would need to be wider. Just adding buttons to the remote in it's current form will make it uncomfortable imo.

I think two buttons would be good. 4 buttons would be pushing it.

I see merit in a redesign, but I don't see it happening. I think they want to be able to advertise that you can upgrade from Wii without the need to buy anything more than what comes in the Wii U box.
