The Xbox 360 controller is still the best followed by the PS3 controller. For the next gen standard controller the PS4 controller I think is the best. The Wii U Pro controller has a typical Nintendo quality construction. It's made of ordinary plastic. The D-Pad is wobbly. There's no analog triggers. No headphone jack. The battery port cover is screwed in place (though this is not really a big problem hence the battery life will last very long). The controller buttons are not backlit. The 4 tiny indicator LEDs look bad. Button placement on the Xbox 360 controller is much better (if you get used to using Pro controller then this will not be a problem anymore). Overall, the Pro controller is the worst standard controller among the 3. It does the job though even if it's not the best.

Yes, the Wii U D-Pad is wobbly & poorly designed. The battery cover has screw too unlike the Xbox 360 controller which has a snap on battery cover. You really need to buy a Wii U before calling someone a troll.

I like the Xbox 360 snap on battery cover better. You can change batteries a lot easier.

I don't mean the Pro controller is bad. It's still solid overall & works as intended. It's just not the best among the 3 (designwised & construction quality). Nintendo fanboy or not, you'll be in denial not to know about that. It's pretty obvious if you compare the controllers.

i agree the pro controller isnt the best of the 3 but it does what you need it to.
personally the dualshock 3 is the best for me (although i still think the n64 is my favourite controller)

You could be right about the Dualshock 3. I only have Xbox 360 controller to compare. I got a PS2 & its controller looks solid too. I really like the PS4 controller.

I'm not sure how you can say the battery cover having a screw holding it shut is a knock against it... the 360 controller snaps off because you need to replace the batteries when they die. The Pro controller has rechargeable batteries, so the one time that cover will need to come off is when the rechargeable batteries give out, many years from now. And then you're good for another few years or more.

To compare Nintendo's construction quality is like comparing Samsung & Apple smartphone & tablet's contruction quality. Samsung having poor construction quality but still does the job really good.

All the D-pads are wobbly. I just checked my Dualshock 3, and it still moves around. That's just the way thigs are.
The screw is there much like a Dualshock, beause it has a lithium ion rechargeable battery. You have to buy a rechargeable batter for Xbox 360.
So none of those complaints are valid. The only things Dualshock has that the others don't is pressure sensitive buttons which they are getting rid of in DS4, and 6 axis motion, which Nintendo combats with saying, "just get a Wii remote for motion".
I don't really get these complaints honestly...

Nop, not all D-pads are wobbly. Only Nintendo D-pads. I happened to differentiate controllers from the old Dreamcast, PS2 & Xbox 360. All this controllers have D-pads constructed with a single base. The Xbox 360 has the best engineered circular D-pad. On the PS2 the D-Pad has 4 outer holes that's tightly encased in it's housing much like the Xbox 360 to prevent it form wobbling. The old Dreamcast has a very solid D-Pad too. The Wii U's D-pad is poorly engineed in construction. Nintendo could have done better but that's just how they do things.

The Wiimote D-pad is the only Nintendo D-pad that doesn't wobble cuz it's too small & encased so tight.

This is no way combats what I said. The flimsy clip on cover on the 360 controllers is there for a reason. The much more secure screwed on cover on the Pro is there for a reason. Not being able to quickly remove batteries that will not need to be removed for a loooong time is not a valid complaint.

Also...

... seriously? Have you tried to ever play a game using the 360 D-pad?

Ya, the D-pads are basically all the same. I like all the controllers about equally. To be fair, I don't care for voice chat, and most other complaints, so built quality and features are opinions at that point.
Xbox 360 D-pad is the worst to play with, IMO. The difference is that they didn't put casing over the diagonal inputs so it's easier to put in wrong commands unless you're careful.
I'd say Wii U Pro controller beats all, but I'm not the guy that cares for voice chat in my games. PS3's motion control and pressure sensitive buttons rarely got used, so you're paying $10-15 on extra parts you'll never use, but that's last gen now...

Why can't you just accept that people like the Pro controller over other current controllers?
They are basically all the same except PS3 has the 6 axis and pressure buttons. The only thing not on the Pro controller is analog shoulder buttons, which I don't mind, because I haven't see use of the analog shoulder buttons in years
Even in racing games, there's rarely a need to not "floor it". Can anyone that plays Sonic Racing or Need for Speed on other consoles confirm that the analog shoulders do anything worth mentioning?
As for voice chat, a wireless headset will come eventually. It's standard, remember? There's obviously a higher priority than making sure voice chat is standard in current games. Even as it is, there is voice chat on the GamePad if your that desperate for it.

Wii U Pro Controller and PS3 Dualshock D-Pads 4 the win. I don't even OWN a PS3 but just from playing it several times. I have a 360 here I don't even use. The Injustice demo blows with that crappy D-Pad. Though I know you're trolling so no need to continue.

The way I see it there are three things that would have made the Pro Controller better.

  • Non-glossy finish
  • Analogue triggers
  • Headset input

The D-Pad is probably equal second to the SNES D-Pad which I personally think is the best D-Pad I've ever used. It's better than Sony's, it's better than Microsofts, it's better than the one on the Gamecube Controller which was tiny and the one that's on the 3DS made of dinky plastic. It's not better than the one on the SNES. If you disagree try playing something like Super Mario World ("like" because ROMs are bad mkay?) on the 360 D-Pad.

On battery covers the DS Lite had an identical battery cover. I never needed to open it, I rarely needed to charge it. Pro Controller is the same. Would it be better if they took the Apple route and made the battery non-removable?
