@RoryLee: Depends if the customer has something to be angry about. If the company does what they stated than they are in the right. I cant tell you how many customers I have dealt with that think that throwing a fit will make me change company policy. Usually I just have fun with those type of people. And I read the fine print so that way I know what I can and cant do if a situation like this arises.

@Ryno: Are you serious dude? I will have to check my order than.

OH NOS! Best Buy has a pending charge on my Credit Card for the Wii U initiated on October 14th!

Actually I'm glad. I take it as a sign that Best Buy is actually allocating one for me and I am one step closer to getting a Wii U!

Getting it charged to a credit card is no big deal. If this was a checking account it would be a different story. Can you honestly tell me that you have enough in your account right now for the WiiU? I know I dont. So I would be suprised to see a charge for that much.

And there are plenty of other factors why someone would not have enough. It could be that time for bills, an unexpected visit to the ER, and etc.

If people do not have at least 3 months of living expenses in a savings account then they should not be buying a Wii U. People need to get their financial house in order ASAP. This mentality of buying things you don't need when you don't have the money needs to end. Create a budget, pay down your debt and build up your emergency fund.

Unfortunately buying things you don't need and may not be able to afford is exactly what capitalism perpetuates. You can't tell me you haven't done something like that at least once in your life.

life is not that cut and dried: there are times when, even if you've done everything right, you are hit with the equivalent of a mack truck and are never able to catch up again. must be frustrating that the great unwashed won't listen...

i am not currently interested in the WiiU, but my 3DS XL keeps me sane oft times.

The former is not exactly a problem, and the latter is a personal self-control issue. I really don't see what capitalism has to do with this argument at all. This is about some companies going against what many thought was usual policy (not being billed on pre-orders until the shipping date).

OT: This is why I never pre-order from Target anymore. IIRC, they will often charge you before the shipping dates.

That makes sense but still they should have enough to cover the Wii U in the account or at least where they can move it if they have too. They basically said that when the put in the preorder that yes I have the money, not well I might have the money depending on X situation. It cracks me up because some people dont have that and now are going to complaining that they are getting overdraft fees.

Yeah, it's not like Ryno was talking about people ordering things they can't afford or anything like that.

@The_Fox: Its not capitalism's fault. Its the peoples fault. Plain and simple you dont have the money for it dont buy it thats all it is. That goes for a Wii U. You dont need it to survive its a luxury item and they they are too stupid to realize that well thats their fault.

I feel like I'm in a good financial situation. It's just that I put most of my money into my savings, and I usually leave just enough left in my checking account to get by. That's one situation where this early preorder could seriously mess up my account.

And like Jon_T, I was under the assumption that you finish paying for your order once the merchandise is available. I dont have to worry since I already paid off the WiiU, but I'll keep an eye on my accounts for now.

I don't blame capitalism for giving people the option to buy something. I believe it comes down to self control. Sure, I have bought stuff that I could not pay for right away before I looked into financial planning.

I am really glad to hear you are in good financial siutation and hope others are as well. I understand the checking account for monthly bills and savings for everything else, similar to what I do. I just think if I had used my debit card to preorder the console I would have transfered the money into my checking account. and expect it to come out at anytime in the next two months from preorder to launch. I am just now finidng out that people expected the charge to come out of their acocunt on November 18th.

A problem I have with capitalism is that some people seem to think it should be completely unassailable, which is just silly. One of the unfortunate side effects of our society is the billions that are spent each year convincing people just that: that they should exist outside of their means. I could (and would) go on but that's just asking for a trip to lock town.

Target should only take preorders if the customer can pay it off in full. It just seems really dumb for them to take it out on a random day.

You are saying that when you pre order the item. You are saying yeah I have the money now but the item isn't out now so I am letting them know that when it does come out I want one. If you use pre orders as oh I will pay a bit now and than worry about how I am going to pay off the rest as I said thats your faults not the company you pre ordered with. YOU TOLD THEM THAT YOU HAVE THE MONEY NOW. Not oh I will have the money on November 18th. Thats law away.
