Hello all,

I recently and I mean recently(Christmas Eve) have jumped back into the world of Nintendo by getting a Wii mini for Christmas. I have not owed anything Nintendo since the 64.

I love the Punch out, Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong Franchises. I am torn on which console I should buy. The goal in to make my purchase on January 10th.

Any help is appreciated. And thank you in advance.

Well i guess the question is, what are you looking for more in your purchase? Portability, Games(only), MultiMedia etc

Games and experience. Portability is a non-factor for me. I also love to play classic games(still own a few on my Nes).

It my Wii gaming library helps. I have Punch Out Wii, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, and Twighlight Princess.

I've been looking at games on both conses and these ones have caught my interest...

Mario Kart 3Ds
Mario Kart 8
New Smas Bros.
Mario 3D World
Zelda: Link Between 2 Worlds
Zelda: The Windwaker
Zelda: OOT
New Mario Bros. 2
Donkey Kong

As far as hand helds I generally just play games in my home(not really big into games on my phone either unless I am flying somewhere)

Thank you for any feedback guys. Also any awesome games that could be mentioned to sway my purchase would help.

It looks like you are pretty much split down the middle in your game interests, so I would probably let the deciding factor be that you generally play games in your home and go with the Wii U for now.

I'm on a pretty big Zelda kick right now. Which is better? Windwaker or Link between 2 worlds?

Wind Waker is. Although I didn't get HD because I still have the GC original.

Wii U. You could play WW and SM3DWorld and that will be brilliant for you. Then you'll have DKCRTF and Mario Kart which will be better on Wii U than the current 3DS title.

The 3ds is much cheaper though. You could get a 3ds with a couple games for the same as a WiiU only.

But anyway both are great now when the WiiU has gotten more great games.

I'd say 3DS but that's a complete biased sugestion coming from someone who takes his videogames everywhere and loves RPGs.
for you I recommend the WiiU I don't have one but it's better to play at home(and it doesn't require two systems for multiplayer )

Wii U seems to fit your interests more. 3DS is a great system in all respects, especially if you like a variety of genres. However, the Wii U has more games in line with your list. If you are looking for games to spend 100 hours on (like FE: Awakening, PokemonX/Y, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Etrian Odyssey, SMT IV, Soul Hackers, AC: New Leaf, Rune Factory 4, Bravely Default, etc.) then you should definitely go with a 3DS. If you want to more expansive, evolved versions of the type of games Nintendo is known for (don't miss out on Pikmin 3) then I'd go with Wii U. Especially if you have any interest in playing with friends or family. That said, you should really think about getting both if the games you listed interest you (make sure you play all those Zelda games). (Oh, and replace NSBM2 with NSBMU, trust me.)

Don't dismiss the fact that everything you can use with you Wii Mini will also work with your Wii U. That means at the very least you'll immediately have extra controllers for multiplayer. In fact, the Wii U will even allow you to access the online features of those Wii games (MKWii online is still tons of fun).

I'd also be interested in what other systems you own because, contrary to popular belief, the Wii U has some good multiplatform games as well (Most Wanted U, Deus Ex, Black Flag, Rayman Legends, Darksiders 2, SC: Blacklist, SSR: Transformed, Tekken TT2, Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, Injustice, CoD, Swap Force, Disney Infinity, etc.). All of these ports have something unique to offer on Wii U, whether dual screen local multi, improved controls, better maps, improved inventory, etc... And don't forget the typical recommendations that can't be played on any other platform (Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, ZombiU, Nintendoland, NES Remix, Game & Wario). Finally, on top of the Wii U's back catalog, the next year looks to have some incredible releases despite an overall sparse lineup. I wouldn't want to miss this next year.

Gameplay-wise A Link Between Worlds stomps all over Wind Waker. Especially in dugeon design. Still, WW is one of the most confident, enjoyable, compelling games in the entire series. You are going to want to play both down the road (OoT3D, as well).

I will say this, ALBW and SM3DW are about as fun as games get. Each boils the essence of gaming down to an incredibly lean, eminently tasteful core experience without any sacrifices. You're going to have a lot to look forward to either way.

I definitely want to play all the Zelda games. Owning both would definitely be something I am interested in doing down the road.

I currently own an XBOX 360. To answer your question on games. I have
Forza 4
Forza Horizon
Halo 3
Halo 4
Madden 25
WWE 14
Batman Arkham City
Batman Arkham Origins
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat vs DC
Injustice
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Grand Theft Auto 5
Gears Of War

Given what you own, the Wii U sees more up you alley. Don't see any Strategy or RPG games, which are a major selling point of the 3DS. The Wii U lineup has great complements to those 360 games and features that should be beneficial as well. Off-TV will change your world and, if you aren't looking for on-the-go gaming, is far superior in form, controls, and screen size to any dedicated portable. I won't play sports games any other way ever again (that is, off-TV while watching sports or whatever), for instance.

The local multi aspects should be alluring as well. Having two screens for something like CoD multi (where you play zombies co-op or online deathmatch with two separate screens) is revolutionary. Co-op in games like Marvel Lego is so much more appealing. Multiplayer in a game like Transformed is incredible without having to split a screen. Regardless of the games, these features make a Wii U essential to anyone interested in couch multiplayer.

Heck yes! I think I am heavily leaning on a Wii u purchase next Friday.

2 games I would defiantly buy are Windwaker and Mario 3D.

I've heard Pikmon and some wonder games are real solid as well. What would be the best 3rd game if I go that direction?

For 3rd party, I'd recommend Rayman Legends and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Rayman Legends for it's damn fine platforming, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is great for playing online with random people and/or friends. You could get hundreds of hours of gameplay out of that one. I strongly recommend both.

That's tough.

Pikmin 3 is truly a memorable experience. All three games deserve to be remembered decades from now. This one is a precise blend of action, strategy, puzzles, and overall management. It's as playable and rewarding as you can imagine while providing subtle, profound symbolism about our relationship to nature and government of the environment in nearly every interaction. I can't recommend it enough, yet there is one primary caveat.

Are you comfortable with Wiimote + Nunchuk controls? That's definitely the preferred way to play (over dual analog) due to the incomparable level of speed, precision, and accuracy. Dual analog functions quite well, but you are going to want to aim swiftly and accurately. Not only is the game far from easy, the challenging mission mode is one of it's best features. Actually, the most recent DLC pack (really tough) is some of the best DLC I've ever played. If you like the game, I'd definitely recommend picking it up ($5).

I know I'd get Pikmin 3 if I were you, but I was a fan of the series. Even then, The Wonderful 101 would give it a serious run (and that just dropped to $30). It's an intense, insane homage figures the nearly lost era of Saturday morning superhero shows, action figures, and more colorful comic books. It's a creative tour de force... No doubt, but it has some peculiar design decisions that make it shockingly haphazard compared to the refined game design Nintendo excels at.

In that way it's similar to jumping into a retro classic. If you want to enjoy it you better expect to grit your teeth and endure/embrace trial and error as you learn the. mechanics the hard way. Everything functions well, but the game revels in testing your recognition and ability rather than offering encouragement or reinforcement. I love that sort of thing, and the rewards in The Wonderful 101 are undoubtedly worth all the effort. It's brimming with bombastic combat and progressively over-the-top level designs. I wish everyone got it because this game is just pure joy.

Outside of those two, which I would definitely choose from myself... Everything else has significant caveats:

ZombiU is a no-brainer if you have played or could/would play something like Resident Evil 1 or 2. (You can play the demo; however, if you want to play it fully I would want to go in with an untarnished view because the feeling of pressing dread and necessary progression are essential to the experience.). Love this game and it will never leave my collection (instead I will double dip on a digital version if I never catch it at $20).

NSMBU and Rayman Legends are all excellent 2D platformers but each is geared towards multiplayer. If you want to play co-op either is a great choice. If you want a single player game, I'd probably pick up Super Luigi U for cheap. It's tougher and great for late night sessions.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is an excellent online multiplayer game, but unless you plan to play it a minimum of 50 hours, it's hard to recommend. First off, the initial learning curve is significant . But don't let that stop you from taking a chance, if you can plow through the first 5-10 hours and hop online with some like-minded hunters, the next 100 will be magnificent. (It's also great for local multi, but additional players need 3DSs and copies of the game.)

Beyond that, there are a few third party games worth considering:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution DC is hands-down the best console version of a near modern classic. Even with the better performance on PC, this could be the definitive version thanks to the Gamepad. Simply having a dedicated screen as a radar map enhances stealth games exponentially.

NFS: Most Wanted U is cheap and undoubtedly the definitive console version. It cannot be emphasized enough how much this version is improved over the PS3/360 counterparts. However, considering you play Forza, I'm guessing analog triggers are an important consideration for you (though MW is not a simulation-style racer). I've never missed them, but I know many serious racing gamers who refuse any alternative. Your call.

Sonic Racing Transformed is similarly the best console version and thus deserves a mention as well. Off screen play is nice, but the dual screen multiplayer racing is truly a blast. While a vocal minority swear by this game, be aware it lacks the polish, accessibility, and overall design chops of a Mario Kart release. That's OK though because it's really more of an arcade racer that thinks of itself as a kart game.

Whew. Well, that's pretty much what I'd be looking at. Hopefully some of it helps. Enjoy.

I believe I will pick up the Wii u bundle with New Mario and Luigi u. Then pick up Mario 3d and windwaker.

Looks like Pikmkon would be the most fun to add to the list.
