Do you want a shared network like PSN, or seprate shops? Do you want friend codes or usernames? Maybe some 3DS online compatibility? Chat about your Wii U online expectations on this thread.
I'm happy as long as we get usernames or ANYTHING other than the b/s Friendcode system. That's actually my only hope at the moment. They can do whatever they want after that.
I'm not expecting anything in the likes of PSN though. Nintendo are to stubborn to do what someone else has done even if it work. They're gonna do 'their own thing' even if that's a bad move. I don' mind though, I'm glad we have one system that separates from the other two. The Ps3/360 are way to alike IMO.
But anyway. As I said, Friendcodes need to go and IIRC they already confirmed that that's happening. So I'm a happy camper at the moment.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

Then why did they keep Friend Codes on the 3DS? That just sends out mixed messages to customers.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I'm hoping Nintendo unifies the online shops of 3DS and Wii U, not 2 separate shops, just one eShop that's tailored to both platforms. Previews of games that are available on both platforms would be a great way of cross-promotion.
And automatic downloads are a must (patches, DLC, game and system updates, demos, etc.). Making system updates automatic and mandatory would be a great way of deterring pirates. Without the latest firmware, you can't connect to the eShop or play the latest games until you update.

The closest to realistic and optimistic online I can think of is a simple non-service with fewer restrictions than previous hardware. Almost exactly like PS2.

I don't know. They take it slooooooooooow I guess.
The Wii has software-based Friendcodes ---> 3DS has hardware-based/universal Friendcodes ---> WiiU has no Friendcodes.
I really don't know why. Nintendo is weird that way.
Can you give me the source where it says the Wii U doesn't have friend codes?

""Rather than a machine having an account, each individual user has an account," explained Blunt, pointing out that the system is very similar to Gamertag on Xbox Live, able to "connect players in a much easier way" than friend codes."
Let's hope it's a good system.

And let's also hope that the online is shared with the 3DS!
Doubt online will be shared with 3DS, since the 3DS uses friendcodes, and it would be difficult to have a username and friendcode system on the same console.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
And no more download speeds of the 80's as with the Wii.
theres a reason for that you know since thier downloadable games arent that big, so money wise why spend more to make it faster over soemthing so small no?
