875% increase in sales?

Congrats Wii Uers! The train is chuggin' now. Matter of fact, I'm going to buy one myself. (Though the gamepad still intimidates me)

to be fair, Wii U has been selling so poorly so far this year that this isn't suddenly gonna make Wii U as successful as the Wii. If Wii U was selling next to nothing, an increase that big isn't gonna be millions of copies.

That being said, that's still insane.

Come on, seriously do we need another Nintendo doom and gloom --------

Oh hey wait a minute not a doom and gloom? Well excuse me I am so use to the doom and gloom thread I right away out of habit. Oh never mind.

Anyway lol. It doesn;t surprise me. People were probably waiting to see what MS and Sony were bringing to the table and when before they made a definite decision on a Wii U.

Ok? This is kinda weird. Did Microsoft's reveal excite the Wii U folks? What the heck is going on?

Not very surprised. The Wii U and PS4 looked a lot better after seeing the Xbox One reveal. :P

Good to see Eartbound (Wii U) climbing them chartz too!

I miss Japanese games, the good stuff... Games that are imaginative, have good and unique gameplay, a great soundtrack, and replay value.

It's obvious that a lot of people wanted to wait to see all the options before choosing which consoles they wanted. After the Microsoft conference, I suppose a lot of people are entirely satisfied not waiting for an Xbox One.

Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!

The Xbox 1 was a big dud mostly due to all of the restrictive DRM on it. Blocking and/or fees for used games, mandatory internet connections, mandatory kinect use etc. I suppose users don't like paying for something and then be dictated what you can and cannot do.

Then again everyone mad about the Xbox DRM here will be going to the e-shop to buy DRM laden digital download titles instead of physical versions for their Nintendo systems. A bit of irony there maybe.

Beyond epic. Too bad this isn't an actual official commercial though.

Biggest Pikmin fan on NL!

Avian fact of the week: The Moa, an extinct relative of ostrichs and emus that inhabited New Zealand, was the tallest bird that ever lived at 12 ft tall (3.6 m). It was also the only known bird to have no wing structure.

At least you have the option to get the physical version if you really want to. Plus the physical version is still my preferred version given how frequently it's cheaper than the eShop price. Even when the eShop has a really good sale chances are I could probably find it cheaper in store anyway.

I think I would probably be happy with the XB1 DRM if those restrictions came with other freedoms. Allow me to download the PC version if I pay for the XB1 version, allow me to play older games. Because I'm more than happy for Steam to kill the used game business and more than happy for them to restrict "lending". I can be happy with that because I know if I buy a game on Steam I'll be able to play it on whatever.

E3 and Pikmin release should up consumer confidence as well and fall/winter releases should seal the deal for a few million more before spring next year.

The rank moves all the time so every article is going to say something different. I suspect the article in the OP is its highest rank and the article on NintendoLife has taken a screencap a while after. If you wait long enough you'll probably see it level out or even start to drop a bit even if it continues to sell at about the same as it did just after it jumped 875%.

Like the 3DS after it's price drop. The week after sales grew by ~800%, two weeks after sales dropped 12%.... but were still 7.8 times larger than they were before the price drop ;)

I think that after E3 Wii U sales are gonna be healthy, but this here is a total non story. 875% rise over the day before and it's still the 50th best selling video game item? Ranked right alongside 32gb vita memory cards. The percentage increase looks nice but in terms of actual units being sold its abysmally low. It just means nobody was buying them 2 days ago, but now the price dropped by £70 then a tiny number of people have.

This happened when Asda dropped the price to £200. It was reported that sales had jumped up by 125% over the week before, and people rejoiced that monster hunter had saved the Wii U... then the monthly figures came out and they were worse than the month before! Don't look at percentages, it's really dumb to celebrate a percentage increase of a product that is not selling much at all.

E3 announcements should provide a REAL increase, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 should help sustain those numbers and Nintendo can go for the kill with Mario Kart and a price drop for the holidays. But for now, excuse me if I don't celebrate Wii U matching vita memory card sales.

Looking at it closer I'm fairly sure that @Peach64 is correct. If you go to the US Amazon the best selling Wii U, the basic model, is ranked 101. Nowhere in sight on their biggest change in sales section. I wasn't aware that there was a price drop on the UK Amazon site but if that's the case that's almost surely what has happened here.

If it was a reaction to the XB1 announcement then it wouldn't have been isolated to just the UK.
